I was flipping through "Ostara" by Edwin McCoy and noticed a section on beach spells/rituals etc. Since I have always felt a strong connection to the ocean, this really caught my eye.

Does anyone know any of other spells involving the beach/ocean?

I really need to get back into my books. I'm sure I have something, somewhere on this. But I don't even know where to look in my collection. I guess I'm not much help.

Aw, don't say that. It is definetly the thought that counts. :)

I've spent most of my life wondering why the ocean has such a hold on me. I've gone there and had the thought, "I am home." So I thought I might have some success practicing at the beach.

Or maybe I was just a fish in a former life!!

Hi all!!!
Well,I wouldn't call it a spell exactly. But I like to gather shells, and kind of build a structure of them.Thinking of something in my life, some goal, and use each shell as a kind of visualization of steps to achieve that goal.
I do similar when at a river or lake, but use stones and pebbles instead.Just get the ones that speak to me.
Just thinking here, but you could do similar stuff with sand.Build a structure.LOL,a magickal use for sand castles maybe. But,I think it could work.Or,at least draw magickal symbols in the sand,to achieve a certain goal.
And in the woods, you can use sticks and stones, etc.
Be imaginitive, create your own stuuf,it's fun!
Just thoughts. As you can see,as a Witch,I often fly by the seat of my pants!Hee hee
But it often works!
Peace and Love

Thank you for your thoughts! I just always feel attracked to bodies of water. The ocean especially, but I like rivers and lakes and such too. :)

I have one called the Ninth Wave Spell. It's a love spell and you need the ocean to do it. If you are interested, PM me and I will write it all down for you..... :)

I don't know about ocean/beach specific spells, but I *love* working energy at the coast. When I have a super important spell or ritual to do, I do it there.

Not a spell, really, but when I ground myself I visualize waves breaking over me and carrying the energy away to disperse in the ocean. Just seemed to work better than the tree visualization for me. I'm also called by the ocean. My dad still calls me his water baby from time to time. Heh.
I also use a piece of coral for a wand, river rock for my altar and have shells all over my altar. If I can't be by the seaside at this very moment, well, the sea side will be by me, darn it!

What a great idea to try and ground using the ocean imagry! Thank you for the idea! For some reason the ocean just really "speaks" to me. I don't have an alter yet, but I think when I do, it'll have a lot of oceany things on it! :)

Glad you like it! It seems to work best with water, whether waist deep in the ocean, chilling in the bath, or clutching a bottle of Dasani at work, heh.
I recently joined a Yahoo group Seawitches (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SeaWitches/)
I'm still just digging through the archives, but there's tons of nifty information there.

Im not sure of any published spells or what not, but I can attest to raw power of the ocean. This past summer, while taking a weekend break on the Alabama coast of the Gulf of Mexico, a tropical storm came through and decided to smash itself against the coastline. It was about that time that i got the sudden urge to go meet this pwerful beast, and jumped in the 15-20ft tall waves at an abandoned beach...it was an amazing 4 hours of intense, destructive, and raw power....i opened myself in the water and was privy to the presence of what i can only describe as an ancient, bestial force...like a machine of unknown origin moving on a path only it knew....i called it and it called back, i pushed and it pushed back harder...
hope that helps any....there is power there, there is something there....look in to it....

Awwww...this thread just reminded me how much I miss the ocean. *super deep sigh*

I know exactly how you feel. I hope to live near the ocean when I'm older...I have always considered myself a *sea witch*

Here's a cool website to check out on the subject if you like:

Hello there! I know what you mean. I'm going through sea water withdrawls.
*Kirk voice* Must...get...toFlorida!
And I love that website.
I wonder...what do you call a group of sea witches? A pod?

Michie: Give in to the Soggy side! :fishtank:

Mesektet: Mmm, storms...I love them. Though I can't sleep through the darned things, they make me too hyper and I have to ground myself constantly when I have to work through one. I was actually starting to miss tropical storms and hurricanes when we got hit here with Hurricane Elvis. Though up here I'm not nearly as worried about lightning strikes and got to play in it all I wanted. Ahh...
