I found that listening to guided meditations on tape were a good way to train the mind to focus on one thing. They are good in that you don't have to think "ok what next? I'm not SEEING ANYTHING! etc etc" - I had a BEAUTIFUL meditation tape called the Dolphin Dreamtime, was based of Australian Aboriginal dreamtime techniques, and also lots of beautiful music, a walk through a cave of quartz crystals, and then a series of music and dolphin calls where you were to go swimming with the dolphins (this was often when the dolphins would show you important things you had to see - it was unguided for a little while)

BEAUTIFUL tape, and I lent it to a friend when she had a baby and never got it back. I am so disappointed.

But anyway, so I find guided meditation tapes good, and you'll find that once the mind is trained for visualisation, sitting down and meditating on your own is a lot easier.

At least in my case it was.

Our priestess uses guided meditation in class to teach visualization and concentration, etc. Guided meditation is new to me. When I learned to meditate many moons ago there was no such thing as a tape to help, it was very hard to learn to still my mind. I did learn though, eventually. Maybe the guided tapes make it easier? Did you get to the point where you could meditate without any tools or do you stil need a tape?

oops, ok, I see you don't use them now. (I must have skipped over the last sentance or two) The tapes might be good when I am tired or under stress and can't concentrate as usual.
