I try not to think of this day as beeing unlucky. However, as I get into work today, I see today is already a bad day. Every morning I check to see if the credit card sale were proceess at night by the computer ok. One of our locations did not transmit to the bank. So, I transmitted this morning. Which means that it will be combined with todays slaes and be a real problem for finance. The the real bad news came. I check my e-mail today and found out that one of my co-workers died of cancer this morning at the age of 53. That's two bad things, and if bad things come in 3 I am waiting for the 3rd.

Cleff,

Sorry to hear about your co-worker. When I got into my car, I turned on my radio to hear various radio stations talking to callers calling in stating their fear and superstitions about Friday the 13th. I came so close to calling in and stating that to me, as a Pagan, 13 is a great number! A number of the Goddess and great power of the 13 full moons, and that Friday, ruled by Venus is a day of love, friendships and beauty. But I chickened out, oh well. One person called in saying that the number 13 is the number of evil and she heard of a "covenant of 13" as she called it, that meet and do evil doings, he he he. I thought what a load of bull, he he he. Everyone have a great 13th!

Bright Blessings!

P.S. The law firm I work at, I am located on the 13th floor (although it is numbered 14), whatever you call it, it is still the 13th floor!

A friend and I planned a trip a few years back. We left on a Friday 13th and soon after checking into our room, my friend got a call that her Gramps died and we had to go back home so she could attend the funeral/say goodbye. Probably just coincedence, but it made me think.
I actually like them now, all the bikers in the area pass through my wee village on their way to the lake. There's a small town there where they congragate and have harmless fun. I like hearing that low rumble of Harley's all day long.

My Mum always considered Friday 13th to be her lucky day! So we used to look forward to Friday 13th's!!! hehehe I still have a great day on Fri 13th. Here's something I received last year which I thought was interesting:

Why is Friday the 13th considered unlucky?

One of the most commonly held superstitions in our so-called civilized, educated society is that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day, and since, in this equation, each is held to be unlucky, added together, their sum can only equal double trouble. (this was written for the October Friday 13th 2000)

Superstitions swirling around Friday as being lucky or unlucky have existed since ancient times, beginning with the northern nations. Ancient Romans dedicated the sixth day of the week to their beautiful, but vain, goddess Venus, so, when the Norsemen adopted the Roman method of naming days, they naturally adopted Venus as their name for the sixth day of the week. Their closest translation for Venus, Frigg, or Freya, eventually evolved into Friday, a day they considered to be the luckiest day of the week.

From a religious standpoint, Muslims tout Friday as the day higher-ups created Adam, legend has it that Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, the apple, on a Friday, and later died on a Friday, and Christians consider Friday as the day on which Christ was crucified by the Romans.

The Scandinavian belief that the number 13 signified bad luck sprang from their mythological 12 demigods, who were joined by a 13th demigod, Loki, an evil cruel one, who brought upon humans great misfortune. The number 13, in the Christian faith, is the number of parties at the Last Supper, with the 13th guest at the table being the traitor, Judas. When Christians combine this day and number, the combination can only hold special significance.

Whether or not a person considers Friday the 13th as unlucky, he or she must understand that this superstition, as well as others, merely stem from beliefs or practices man used, and continues to use, to explain, and to protect himself, from events beyond his control in his complicated world. He worked, and works only with the bag of knowledge he has on hand.

Only when factual, scientific bases for these beliefs are unearthed, and people do not dispel the beliefs, but instead cling to them, the beliefs become superstitions. Today's beliefs may very well be tomorrows superstitions. Until then, however, don't step on a crack!

***

Of course many pagans (myself included) consider 13 to be a lucky number! And of course there's the history having 13 in a coven.

It's all in how you approach it. Bad things happen all the time, but we never attach special meaning to them unless we're "taught" to, like in fearing Friday 13th.

Hmmmmmmm....

Well...one thing I'm wondering, is if Friday the 13th, effects any of our psychic abilities. If 13 is such a powerful, magickal number, might our psychic gifts be more pronounced on this day?

I have a tarot reading gig tonight, and wonder if the day will have any effect on my readings.

On the other hand, because of something odd that was going on this morning...i'm kinda hoping it DOESN'T mean our psychic abilities will be stronger today.

This morning, my hubby woke me up, and said he was writing his Last Will and Testament, on a computer program. And that he was leaving everything to me.

He's not a particularly morbid person. In pretty good health, as far as I can tell, and not at all depressed, or anything. But it struck me as odd, that he would choose today to write his Will.

Later in the morning, he was holding his cat, (who is getting on in years) and told me "Boris is going to pass on in the fall..."...I asked him why he would think that..the cat is only 10..that's not TOO old, compared to some other cats I've known..and he answered.."I just feel it..like he's telling me. He's just going to fall asleep in the woods". It really gave me the creeps. I kinda got goosebumps.

Clef0628, I'm sorry to hear about your coworker. News like that is always hard, no matter what day of the week or month.

I always wondered if the occurances around Fri 13th are more noticeable because of all the attention this day receives. Bad news comes at any time of the month/year but it just stands out more today. I had wondered if its because we look for the bad things that happen today instead of good things.

Fri the 13th is always a special day for me. Today, I'm going to do a "me" day. I don't have to work today. My son is at a sleepover at a friend's & hubby's gone off to work. I can stay on the computer as long as I like. :D Then I'm going to sit out on my deck & watch the grass grow!

Willow...

Well, the cat has already been through one major surgery. His urethra was blocked. Plus, he's a highly stressed out cat. We could never quite find out why....and....he's been losing ALOT of weight recently. He's been to the vet once in the last six months, for an ear infection. We're taking him again on Tuesday. I'm sure he'll be fine. I think my hubby is just being very protective. Boris is his first cat, and his "familiar" as he calls him.

Clef I am so sorry to hear about your co-worker, And if you go ahead and break a nail your third bad thing will be over!!

I have an Aunt who was born on Friday the thirteenth and it was a full moon. This is truely her day!! In my family it has always been a very good day! But we are all wierd like that!

Spirahl **** Oh how I miss the sounds of the bikes coming down the road!! In Ohio at the end of my road was a place called Crazy River Ranch, Owned by bikers and their families kindof a campground for bikers and swap meets on the weekend. You could here them day and night. I love the peaceful sound they have when they are cruising up and down the road!! You know it is truely summer!!

Out here in Texas I have Owls huge ones that when they leave the barn I can watch them and see the power they have.

This place is just the best for nature, You all have got to come visit

the view at night is of towns that are 17 miles away it is just breath taking and the fact there are no street lights means the stars could not look closer!!

That was a cool post, Lilu, thanks for sharing that with us! Friday the 13th has always been an extremely lucky day for me actually....nothing bad ever really happens to me on this supposedly "unlucky" day. And today was no exception...I just got a new sofa and chair delivered to my home this afternoon...about 20 more people than I expected are coming to my party/BBQ tomorrow, and I just won a home-security system that I entered a draw for!!! We can't use the system, unfortunately, because we don't own our house (we rent) but my husband and I are going to give it to his best friend as a wedding gift (my hubby is the best man) next month.

What a great day!!!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Love to all!

Friday 13 is a very lucky day for me...and indeed so was this one. I bought some great books...went all over town, finished shopping...truth be told, it was no different. But, maybe it's psychosomatic?...I think of the day as great, and quite lucky...my mother is very afraid of it, and she (consequently?) had a horrible day.
My father, who is so foreign, he doesn't know about the superstition I think, had a relatively normal day. In fact, to Muslims (my dad is one) Fridays are great days, because it's the holiest day of the week, reguardless of what Friday it is....
Maybe it is according to how you look at it?

Well, the only bad thing that happened to me yesterday, was my softball team lost a game. The first one in 5 games. Still going to the playoffs though!
