Hi folks - just on for a rant (as usual)!!
Me & hubby started helping out at a local animal(dog) rescue shelter a year ago. As a result we added a new member to our "pack" last summer and she is doing great. We are definitely 100% doggy people but German shepherds are our favourite. Bonnie was a mess when we first started walking her at the shelter. Its the Dogs Trust in the UK - they dont put dogs down - its a great policy.
ANYWAY.. to get to the point, our latest project (we do socialisation of "tough" cases as well as walking the dogs) Is called Vinny - he is a 4 year old german shepherd dog. Vinny is the most terrified animal I've ever seen, the first time the kennel maid brought him up for us to see he yowled and shook and wouldnt come near us. It took an hour of coaxing and soft talking to get him to even sit down next to us. Our next visit was better- he let us touch him but still was shaky and frightened. Its pitiful to see. We hope by continued visits, walks and outings to convince him that not all humans are going to hurt him.
Why do people do this???? What sick twisted individual could do this to any animal? When I go home after Ive seen him and I see the welcome we get from our three it is totally incomprehensible to me how anyone could want to break their spirits like poor Vinny's has been.
Thoughts people??
