Reading Tigger's 'Good News' thread reminded of me of the first (and only) tarot reading I've done.

It was for myself, about 15 years ago.
I was still married, 1 baby and 1 toddler, and we'd been through a really bad time financially, after my husband had been made redundant twice in a year.
We were selling our home to buy something cheaper and not so nice, using the profit to help pay off some debts. We had already paid for the surveys etc. and were well on the way to signing contracts.
Anyway, I was given some cards and thought i'd give it a go. It didn't go at all well.
I read that we would not get the house we were buying, and although it wasn't a brilliant house it would've helped us out of a bit of trouble. So I was quite upset to read that - we couldn't afford to stay where we were, and it had been really difficult finding a house we could afford instead - not many around at that price.
Well, a few days later, my husband was given an early promotion in his new job, with a large backdated salary increase! This enabled us to carry on selling the house we were already in, but also to buy a much better one in a lovely area instead of the grotty one!

Now here's a couple of questions -
1. Did I really read it, or was it a coincidence?
2. How did you all get into it, and more importantly, how did you learn to trust what you were seeing?
I've sometimes thought of doing another reading, but am a bit frightened to try. If it works, would i tempted to try it for other people, and what if I got it wrong for them? It seems a bit of a responsibility.

(and a third little question - how DO you remember what all those different cards mean??)

I got into Tarot when a friend of mine gave me a deck. It was the Legend: Arthurian Tarot deck. The artwork on it is just beautiful, so I fell in love with it very quickly. I read through the meanings in the book provided. Let me tell you book is wonderful. I'm a fan of the Arthurian legends, and the book linked a story from the legend to each card. Now I don't know everything about the legends and I can't tell you how everyone is linked toghether, but reading each of the stories connected to the cards really helped in remembering what each card meant. The artwork on the cards has great symbolism as to what each card meant too, so that made it even easier. After a while you just get a feeling and vibe from each card and just seem to know what they are trying to get across. I learned to trust what I see when I saw in each reading that the reading paralled my life directly. Just like you I did a reading...celtic cross spread and year prediction spread. I wrote the results in a journal. After that I forgot about it. A year later, I was reading through my journal and came across the readings. I was really shocked. The cards were dead on with everything that happened that last year. After that I just learned to trust in their and my own power. The only people I have read for have been myself, and close friends and family. Perhaps it was because I knew the situations the people were in, but the cards came out dead on again. One girl that had lived with my roommate and I for two months asked for a reading. Now, no one I know really likes her, but she is oblivious to this fact. The poor girl. The reading told her flat out that she should watch how she acts around her 'friends' because at this point no one around her can stand her. I felt so bad, but knew that it had to come out sometime. I don't mind her so I don't really think I was putting a slant on things. Anyways, I hope that helps. Blessed be! :)

Many thanks for that, perhaps i will try again.
I'm always being told by well-respected friends that i'm capable of more than i realise, and that i know more than i give myself credit for, but i'm not so sure!
Anyway, thanks for the tips, there is one particular long-running situation that's reared it's head again recently, so maybe a reading will give me some answers.

Its hard to be confident in your own talents, whether they involve tarot cards, spells, or anything else. If you really feel nervous about doing your own reading ask someone to do one for you. And as far as the situation you described - isn't that neat? Sometimes the cards speak to us before we understand. Clearly at the time you didn't realize what would happen. This, I think, should just remind you to not get too upset by what you learn through divination - sometimes the fool or death card come up and this can mean a GOOD thing, not necessarily bad.

I've learned through this experience to trust the cards and see what they say!! Yesterday i did a wish spread and it wasnt' the best spread i've done but i figured it works for a reason. Nothing bad is gonna happen just some of things didn't show up to confirm the spread liket he nine of cups. But who knows doesn't mean it won't come through!
