How do you get an animal guide?

If I feel a strong connection to an animal, does that mean I'm connected to it? I don't get how everyone else gets theirs.

I'm pretty sure that's one way.

I got mine from dreaming of the animal all the time and feeling a strong connection to it.

In my experience, my animal guide found ME, not the other way around. I started seeing red-tailed hawks everywhere, and I was always the one to spot them--didn't matter if I was driving, or a passenger, or walking. I felt like they were trying to communicate something to me.

Now I have a hawk that visits my dreams and meditation. I see him as a messenger from the gods. He seems to come to me in times of distress, and his presence brings me some peace of mind, so I feel that's his purpose. Hopefully some day he will teach me more! :D
