View Full Version : I just bought a cheap car, on Friday 13th!

And am now totally confused about something.
I found lots of paperwork in the glove compartment containing the service history, receipts etc for the last 10 years (since new)

I've discovered that the last owner, who had the car for less than a year, has spent more than £1500 on it in the last 2 months (the last thing was 4 very expensive tyres only 2 weeks ago) and then sold it! I bought it for a fraction of that amount.

It's a Renault 21 GTXi, seems to be fine, looks immaculate, runs like a dream, tons of new parts including, or so it seems, a very powerful tiger under the bonnet!! haha

What i'm wondering is this:
I had spent the whole day looking at cars that i'd marked off in the 'Auto-trader' (a magazine full of cars for sale), was driven over a hundred miles by a friend looking at a few rust-buckets, all the better looking ones had already been sold, and i was getting desperate - I simply HAD to buy a car that day.
Anyway, purely by chance I came across this car at a local garage, loved it the moment i saw it, took it for a test drive, wonderful, went back to the garage and paid cash then and there.
At the time I felt that i'd been 'led' to that garage for a reason - a lovely bargain of a car was sitting there waiting for me to find it.
Anyway, since finding the paperwork, I'm now wondering why on earth would someone spend sooooo much on a car and then get shot of it - did he discover something so bad about it that i haven't seen yet?
And, was I led to it because 'somebody up there' decided that for once I was going to get a genuine bargain, or was i led to it because i usually seem to have a talent for finding what appears to be a bargain, only to have it turn out to be even worse than the last car?
I only hope i haven't just bought a stolen car, and the last owner is now pining for it back! haha
