LOL. Yeah, my understanding is that practicing witchcraft is against the Catholic rulebook. But if you want to start, you've come to the right place. Catholics took some of their traditions, saints, and church locations from pagans originally so now you seem to be returning the favor. It's o.k. with me if you want to practice witchcraft. Welcome.

I agree on so many levels!

My best advice to you, if you are serious about this is to research! (Some research for years before EVER attempting magic!) Magic is something that if done wrong can be very dangerous to you and your friends, so please research first! :graduate:

"(Some research for years before EVER attempting magic!) "

ya, thats me hehe

so ill second that

i think you might find it interesting to delve into the more esoteric aspects of christianity and the interesting history of the catholic church. look up gnosticism. read historical and modern books that appeal to you. dont just go don robes and start chanting or summoning up demons or casting love spells. unless you just wanna play with the lighter side of witchcraft... in that case go ahead, but i think you would find more real enjoyment from truly delving into first the esoteric aspects of your religion and then taking a look around at other religions like wicca or various eastern religious traditions such as taoism and vedic culture.

you might find it fun to take a trip to a book store and browse through the occult/metaphysical section together

whatever you do i hope its enlightening for you =)

peace

Greetings, CraftyClover.

I've been catholic myself. Catholicism almost stands in direct contrast to paganism, but not necessarily to witchcraft, though many seem to think so.

There are some members on these boards who succesfully combine witchcraft with christianity, or who are jewish or muslim. Just remember that Jesus performed some pretty magical miracles, and that many a saint had powers beyond the average person.

Witchcraft can also hold detailed knowledge of natural remedies for all kinds of discomforts, much like your local chinese drugstore.

I'd say read a bit through these forums, and get a clear picture of what you think witchcraft is to you. Then answer yourself the following question: Why do I want to practice witchcraft?

After answering that, you will have no longer any problem with reconciling it with your catholic upbringing.

While I was searching through the forums I found a thread you might find useful!

Here's some advantages of witchcraft over Catholicism:

Less rules, more Goddesses

We promote women

Not responsible for the Inquisition

Tired of waiting 2,000 year for Jesus to come back

Save wear and tear on knees

Alll of the magic, none of the guilt

Like to burn things

Really piss off parents without paying for tattoo

and last but not least,

No Child Molesting Priests!!

LOL, I was attracted to this thread by the horrendous grammatical error in the title.

By “witchcraft”, do you mean just spellwork, or are you referring to the Wiccan religion? Because, to be a Catholic Witch would be fine, to be a Catholic Wiccan wouldn’t work.

if youre still in school, keep your interest casual. do some spells, do some reading, but dont get too into it, save your energy for your grades. dont fall into the trap of getting so psyched up that nothing else matters, the mundane is just as (if not more) important as the magical.

dont believe everything that you read (especially if the word 'silver' appears in the authors name), dont go around telling everyone you know that youre a witch, dont buy a pentacle just yet, and keep in mind that theres no need to be too formal about anything, after all, youre only starting out. keep your feet on the ground :graduate:

Some would say: especially if the publisher’s name begins with two L’s... ;)

It’s Welsh, and the Welsh pronounce the LL unvoiced, like the L in “at length”

What is it you're specifically wanting to do? Do you want some huge spell that involves every little technique in the book, or are you just contemplating buying a Ouija board? ;)

I was raised Catholic, but broke away because I found Wicca much more fulfilling. Of course, this is only my opinion. Catholicism is very stern when is comes to Pagan-related things. What are you specifically worried about? That you'll go to hell? That someone will find out? What to do in whatever witchcraft you're interested in? Please tell me, I'd like to help! :)

If you ask non-Catholics about Catholicism, you're probably not going to get the Catholic answer. If you're seriously concerned, you should go talk to a Catholic priest about it. Many of them respect true soul-searching.

Excellent Idea!!! I hadn't even thought of that!! :::BANGS HEAD ON DESK:::

When I was first starting to pull away from the church and toward Wicca, I talked to my pastor (I was Lutheran) and he searched and found me a Pagan in town to talk to about my thoughts!!
