Greetings!
How about a small get-together with MW members from Germany and about, like the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Switzerland etc?
When?
We're thinking of a setting a date in the second or third week of March. How does Saturday, March 13 sound?
Where?
Not set yet. Preferably Germany (as central in western Europe as it gets), somewhere near a train station in a big city or close by.
How long?
For one afternoon, perhaps. Since this will be the first meet-up. :D
Why?
Because we want to meet in person!
No, I mean, what's the occasion?
Don't know yet. Perhaps a festival or esoteric congress. Or just some pub with a nice mall in the vicinity. All ideas welcome.
Who will be attending?
I will, and some other people of course. Sign up!

oo, me! maybe frankfurt? it's close by for me, and at least two others that i know of. i don't know where exactly in frankfurt, but they do have a nice little are by the river which has shops and museums and is within walking distance of the train station.

:foh: yer kidding! that's where my family first moved to before we bought the house in ambler! small world, huh?
frankfurt sounds great to me, btw. i'm still keeping an eye out for any special events in the area. i'm trying to avoid choosing a music venue cause i don't know what we all listen to, so it's a bit tricky... i'll find something, tho. :D

I'm alittle south of Frankfurt in Karlsruhe ,but I think it would be great for a meeting. I asked the same thing late last year but didn't get to much feedback. I know that in Durlack on the 1 of May is a big gathering and firer jump. Just an idea.

maybe we can have several meet-ups? i'm strongly in favor of march 13 as i have leave then and at any other time the army might suddenly decide they need me to go do stuff on no notice. i still don't know exactly where, but i recommend avoiding the Sachsenhausen district as the bars there tend to have fights in them. it looks like we will be a small enough group to just show up someplace at first.
the 1 may idea is a good one.
mothwench, i can stand to listen to anything except country music and salsa. luckily those are hard to find in germany. :bigredgri

The 1st of May could do for me as well.
I thought you'd be in the States around that date, Banondraig?

Somehow, I don't think that would work very well... unless you plan to visit me in jail!
But this sounds so fun! Gala and I have been sorta-kinda thinking and talking about a Central Texas meet up.

Bump! :D
Anyone have a problem with March 13?
Anyone have a problem with Frankfurt?
banondraig
February 26th, 2004, 04:52 PM
bump again. i don't have a problem with either that date or that location, especially since i suggested them. :bigredgri
nobody else seems to have a problem either. :woot:

Good, then all we need is a specific location and a specific time.
banondraig
February 26th, 2004, 07:09 PM
maybe one or two pm? as for a location, i don't know. i will have to surf for one, or failing that, scout one out when i get back.

so it's march 13 in frankfurt... what time? irish pub sounds fun to begin with. which one is it, jodarius?
edited to add: hey, isn't there a dinky little flea market on the Main river bank on saturdays? we could go cauldron hunting. :colorful:
banondraig
February 28th, 2004, 01:40 PM
ooh, cauldron hunting sounds like fun! i know of an irish pub in darmstadt, but not in frankfurt. not to say there isn't one, just haven't found it yet. the one in darmstadt is pretty nice, popular with military folk without being too terribly much of a boxing ring.

If we want to go cauldron hunting, we must get together early. Maybe we could lunch together.
banondraig
March 1st, 2004, 10:42 AM
lunch. so maybe noon, then? still need to surf for a lunch spot, but i won't have net access for the next couple of days.
Xentor
March 1st, 2004, 10:43 AM
Mothwench, wanna help locating a lunch spot in or near Frankfurt?
banondraig
March 1st, 2004, 10:54 AM
if it doesn't need to be *in* frankfurt, i know a good one near the darmstadt train station called braustubl, if i'm spelling it correctly. reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. it's about a 20-30 minute train ride from frankfurt, or is that too far?
Xentor
March 1st, 2004, 10:58 AM
As long as there's a train in the evening, headed back to where I live, I'm not complaining.
banondraig
March 1st, 2004, 11:11 AM
ok then, braustubl at noon, then interested parties can head on to frankfurt for cauldron shopping. :) i'll try to find a train schedule for you, but i'm sure there will be a train you can take, from frankfurt if not from darmstadt. if only i could remember their web address and whether they post such things online.

whoops, i'm a bit late... that sounds great. i wouldn't have been much help finding a place in frankfurt cause i never really go there... i went to college in heidelberg, which is the other direction from where i live.
anyway, xentor, i'll talk to my parents about seeing if we can find a way for you to stay the night, that way you won't have to worry about getting a train back to holland that same day. i thought you were coming by car anyhoo.
hey banondraig, speaking of darmstadt, have you ever been to the krone or the steinbruch?

I would take a car, but I have no license ;)
It would appreciate it, Mothwench. A floor is all I need, I can bring my sleeping bag.

HAVE I?
steinbruch is my bar. i can generally be found there on at least one if not both of friday and saturday nights, in the little corner full of americans. they play metal (mostly american) friday nights, goth (mostly german) saturday nights, and according to their little electronic sign 80's & oldies at some point during the week. the downside is they are out in the woods, a 13 euro cab ride from post. hence the frequent sharing of cabs out there. :)
the krone is a goth club in town, much smaller than steinbruch, mellower music. it's more of a place to talk to people, although still pretty loud.
*****
i don't exactly what street braustubl is on, but as you walk out of the hauptbahnhof you will see a gigantic movie theater across the little area full of bus stops. braustubl is to the right of that theater.

 holy cow! we might have walked past each other on one occasion or the other, i've only been to the steinbruch twice (a long time ago) but i still go to the krone on occasion.
how cool is that!?
