Stopped by Goodwill yesterday, just to browse, because lately I have been sorely disapponted on my trips there. Always TOO MANY people. But, I found a handcrafted clay chalice. Too cool! And I got two books, The Medicine Wheel and Dreaming With the Wheel, by Sun Bear and Wabun Wind. So, waiting in line for 20 minutes was worth it!

Way to go :) I should start going there, even though theres a chance of catching bubonic plauge just by walking in the door. Scary place

I have always liked going there, Salvation Army thrift store and the like, but lately it is like going to the mall. I mean, everyone is there. But I have found some of the best stuff EVER at these sort of stores. A matching couch cover and chair cover, BRAND NEW from Target, both for under 20 bucks! This funky religious folding picture/altar? thing...It is old, gold with decorative painting and has two flaps(?) that you open and there is a picture of Mary or that Guadalupe lady. I honestly am not sure what it is, but it is really neat. A HUGE set of Mikasa dishes, only 16.00. A really cool vintage hat covered in black feathers. The list goes on and on and on.

I adore thrift stores. We have a Goodwill and a Salvation Army here in Shelby, along with a locally owned thrift store that that donotes most of its profits to battered women and children, while carrying mostly things they would need at prices lower than the Goodwill or the Salvation Army. I hate to say it, but thrift store chains are starting to become expensive. :hrmm:
There are two more Goodwills and a Salvation Army not too far from here, and then there is of course the Dollar Tree, Super Ten, and Wal-Mart. All of these can offer things fairly cheap at times, and I've found some of my greatest magical finds there. I found my salt dish at Wal-Mart, and it is a silver leaf meant to hold candles but cups well enough to hold salt. I found my white-handled working knife at the Salvation Army, and black candles at a store called Sandy's Christmas Store. I'm sure if there are any pagans in this area many scoff at that place, but it's absolutely wonderful. I found a star (looks just like a pentagram) made of dried vines woven tightly that hangs above my altar, and she is the only place that supplies black candles in this area, and besides just black candles she offers a wide variety of candles, all 25 cents each, and these are thick and about 11" tall.
I found a wooden disc at Wal-Mart which I've made into my ritual disc (often called the ritual pentacle, but mine doesn't feature the pentagram as its main symbol), and well, so many other things I can't even count.

Whoa Antonius! Our Goodwill and Salvation Army Stores are bright cheerful clean places........I find interesting stuff there all the time........like blankets and comforters to sew into beds for the dogs.........seasonal bric a brac, and just a couple of weeks ago, I found an amaryllis bulb that is just about ready to bloom now!! Who'd a thunk it?

Ahh yes, Goodwill, forever a joke in our family. For Christmas I purchased my mother this oversized shirt with two huge cows on it for $1 as a joke. They're her absolute favorite pajamas now!

I don't go to the goodwill much because my mom hates it. But I do know that it's become a fad to get stuff from there. At least in my area.

I love good will. :) The only bad thing is people usually buy all the good stuff before you can get to it.

Thrifting is fun. There are several thrift stores in our area, but Goodwill and Salvation Army are getting more expensive. I got a patio table and umbrella stand (without the umbrella) for $10, but haven't gone thrifting in awhile.
I have the best luck when I also make a donation every once in awhile. (I call it "making an offering to the Goodwill Goddess.") One of my friends calls me "Cheap Jo". :D
