Oh, and for those of you that think you have the problem licked by holding "substitute" parties, here is one last quote from a witches web site (I'm not saying that substitute programs are a good or bad, but this quote IS worth noting!):
"For the last several years, Christian groups have focused their sights on the celebration of Halloween. Using the same ancient propaganda, they have branded it 'evil', the devil's holiday, a time when Witches and Satanists hold their "grotesque rituals". Christian parents are urged to keep their children away from the festivities, lest they be tempted into a lifetime of evil by putting on a pointy, plastic hat. Many churches are insisting on Harvest Celebrations instead of Trick or Treat, which is in fact the original, pagan way of celebrating the holiday. I'm sure Christian groups would be horrified to know that they are now celebrating Halloween the same way Witches are!"
:rotfl:
I LOVE this!

First off, this is just bad research. The author cannot spell anything accurately, much less get the facts straight. Wicca is only about 60 years old. Secondly, it is not the relgion of Witchcraft, but simply a religion that incooperates Witchcraft, with Witchcraft being defined as the manipulation of energy to bring about change.
The sources the author quoted are about as ridiculous as the author themself. Honestly, I think these people go out looking for the most idiotic related Witchcraft sites then try to promote them as the general consensus.
Halloween is not 'our' holiday. Hate to break it to you people, but Halloween is a christian holiday. Samhain is the pagan solar or fire festival, so do not blame us because you see Halloween decorations in school that are merely copycats of our own decorations. That's like blaming a candle flame for being hot, claiming it stole the concept of warmth from magma. For cryin' out loud, if you don't want Halloween in school, stop promoting it. I have never heard of a pagan promoting Halloween over Samhain.
Officially, we (or let's say me) do not/does not worship anything? According to who? You have just listed three things I celebrate on Samhain. Divinity, death, and nature. Make up your mind here. I hope I wasn't 'too' evasive with that statement.
These people are a laugh a minute with their zealous "It's time to take back America!" nonsense. Newsflash, christianity is the thief, not paganism. Paganistic traditions existed long before christianity and we didn't steal your holidays, now did we? Unbelievable.

i agree with what raven windsong said.
that's just unbelievable. honestly! and with Harry Potter condemning witchcraft and sorcery....why don't they just try to ban every single fantasy book ever written? Because they all have them in there!

I will not spend much time writing against Witchcraft, the Bible is VERY CLEAR on this subject. Anyone practicing or following the beliefs of witchcraft or wicca are in need of salvation in Jesus Christ as we all are. Enough said on that. Oh please, grow up and act like a mature human being. Dont just blindly follow something some book written thousands of years ago tells you to do.

I live in the buckle of the Bible Belt, Oklahoma, and there was outrage that Harry Potter was being allowed in the bookstores and on the silver screen. We have all the books, have seen all the movies out, and guess what: we haven't been pulled down in the firey depths of hell screaming in despair.
Why don't these narrow-minded cretins get a real life, or at least leave others alone to live theirs.

Of course they do. Christianity is founded on the principle of conformity. Unless you open your mind and interpret it in a new-age fashion, not judging others, loving your fellow man, and trying to live a positive life, you will interpret it as it was created to be; full of despise toward other religions in the hope that you can not combat them directly, but secretly, using whatever means necessary to subdue them. Most likely the first Christians did this out of simple petty revenge. It is based upon conversion, fear, and a uniformed belief of it being the absolute religion. What other religion can you name that makes such a claim or uses such tactics? Truthfully, I can't list one, and yet people wonder why Christianity does get such a bad reputation most of the time.
Thankfully, there are those who can take such a path and put a positive spin on it, but I would expect no less since you can put a negative or positive spin on anything.

While a child may know whether his (there's that one-sided Christian pronoun we've all come to know and love) work be pure and right, the author is obviously exempt from this quotation.

I was annoyed with this...so I sent them a message:
Um...maybe it's been a while since you were in a public school classroom, but they also decorate for Christmas, and Easter...last time I checked, both Christian holidays (even though Easter actually comes from the pagan holiday Oestara). By the way, you misspelled sabbat...it doesn't have an "o" in it.
Now, everybody light a candle for me that they don't bombard my inbox with emails trying to "save" me.

Fundamentalism, however irritating it might be to some, will always have part in humanity...it is simply a part of the human condition....
Fear is easy...natural...and takes no effort. Whereas understanding and acceptance takes a type of soul that not all possess. Souls age just as a phsical body does...though rarely is a soul the same age as its host body. A "young soul" sees things as child does...think on it for a moment....
A young child sees things in two ways: things that are "me", and things that are "not me". By its instincts, and everything in its core, a child fears that which is different from itself, until such time as they learn to understand and appreciate things different from itself.
Young souls are the same way. It has not yet learned to understand and appreciate the things that are different from itself. By far and away, the majority of people who hold such thoughts are Young Souls. It is not that they do not want to see things as we do, it is that they cannot...through no fault of their own. Every soul goes through this stage, some will stay in it for many incarnations, some will learn and pass through in but a lifetime or two.
However disconcerting hate speech such as this may be, it is not without its use, for those who adhere to it, and those who do not. For those who do, it is a structured environment, a boundary that a Young Soul craves more than few other things. For those who disagree, it is also a boundary, a boundary to which they strive not to come to.
So what is the point of another of my incessant ramblings?
Be happy with who you are...with what you are...
Mortality is far too brief a passion play to be concerned with what someone else things you should do...
Your humble servant,

Just more misunderstanding and the human desire to conquest each other kicking in. No matter what any of us says, this will never stop. It's sad but true. Born-again Christians with no real understanding of Wicca/Paganism will always publish articles like this one. I'm not saying all Christians are like that, my boyfriend is Christian and very open-minded and tolerant, and I know many other Christians who are too, but this just shows the lack of willingness to accept other people in today's society.

I've heard all of that before...I'm sure you have too. It's so sad. There are always going to be people out there who are uneducated...granted SOME things she said were true...but mostly were false.
And we don't believe in God? Where the hell did she/he get that from?
Even my husband, a non-Witch was upset about it.
Thanks for sharing...it was quite interesting.

This...this is exactly why I left the Christian faith....they are suppost to be "understanding"...yeah understanding my FOOT!! Where I live, everyone in my mother's church and my old church were very very judgemental to everything that didn't follow the Bible's guidelines...it just sickens me how witches have done nothing to them.....and they try to destroy us....

[QUOTE=sweet nothings]This...this is exactly why I left the Christian faithQUOTE]
I hate to be the bearer of bad news - but its not only Christians who wish to destroy. One of the main reasons I adopted fully my Witchy tendencies so many years ago and decided wholeheartedly to Come out of that Broom Closet ---
was because I wished to belong to a group of people who would NOT seek to destroy eachother....
Thinking (naive to the max) that joining a group of enlightened people, spiritual people and like-minded thinkers - that I would at last find solace and safety.
When actually I have found that some of our brothers and sisters are just a devious and calculating and evil minded as the worst meaning Christian.
I only mention it here so we can be mindful of balance and not place full responsibility of evil upon a group of Christians - no matter how wrong these people seem to be.
They are not the only ones capable of giving others pain.
I've been working on protecting myself much more and sad as it is that I have to spend time protecting myself from those who I should be able to reach with open arms - the truth is what it is - friends.
So just protect yourself....against the likes of what you rant about here...but be careful as well with those who say the walk the same walk as you do.....
many do not, actually.
it is sad.
(thanks for letting me vent - in case you can't tell - it's been a rough year for me)
hugs to all my friends here at Mystic Wicks where I know at least I am safe and cared for when I am here amongst all of you.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Everyone is entitled to their opinions no matter how ignorant they are...you just simply ignore them...I don't even waste my time reading that crap anymore...I grew up with that mentality surrounding me and being told I was evil and going to hell...there are some Christians, who are open minded enough to agree to disagree...to each their own...and not try to convert you....but the ones that do want to save you seem to be given more air time..than those that don't....Every religion has their extremists..it's all part of our individuality...

Just to fan the flames more, I have never once heard any complaints of Valentine's Day, yet it is clearly a Christian holiday and very 'clearly' celebrated in schools. It is not kept seperate, so if they would prefer to whine over their own holiday, Halloween, why don't we whine back and throw Valentine's Day in as well?
Of course, there is also St. Patrick's day, and New Years (outside of schools, but in the work place) so why stop at Halloween or even Valentine's Day?

I come across these type of things all of the time. I hear about them all the time. I have so many fundamental Christians in classes of mine. I know tons of Bible literalists. I have several people on a personal mission to inform me about my past faults (i.e. Wicca, according to them). However, my anger won't ever change their opinions. It would just further their belief that Wicca is wrong and "evil." I know that trying to inform people of "the truth" should be a goal of mine; however, I am just too tired of telling people what they won't hear. If someone wants to know or is confused about the religion/way of life, then I'll be happy to give them my personal account. Otherwise, I feel that it is basically a lost cause. I am constantly confronted with people telling me that Wicca is wrong (even though I am definitely going through a religious crisis right now); yet, I, nor many Pagans that I know, would ever insult another's religious path and/or beliefs. I am just at a loss about the entire subject...sorry, got a bit off track there...
peace and love,
amber
