Okay, I'm after Aussies here, people.

Do you guys know if banks can change the Aussie dollar into American? Or can those little exchange places they have around, do it?
I don't have a credit card, so paypal or anything like that is out. I've considered money order, but again I'm not sure if you can cash that sort of thing outside Australia.

Yes, the bank will change it for you. They charge a slightly higher exchange rate than the posted one, so they make a profit, but it's not too much higher. And anywhere will charge :)

are you sure paypal is out? i don't have a credit card either, and i'm on it. you give them the info from your bank account. i don't know if you can do that with an australian account or not though. you should go look at their site to make sure.

if you have a checking account, see if your bank will issue a Visa Check Card, will work like a visa for paying on paypal and other places that take visa, except that it comes straight out of your checking, it is a good alternative for folks that don't have credit cards

Hi RR!

Yes, most banks will change Aussie dollars to US dollars - also you can go to a Thomas Cook outlet and do it too. I know there's one at Whitford's City shopping centre (it's right next to Red Dot, if you are familar with Whitford's.)
