View Full Version : Reading before Casting - spreads?

I have read in several books that it's a good idea to do a tarot reading about a spell before you cast it, just to be able to take full responsibility for the results of said spell. I've tried using just plain "Past, Present, Future" but I would like a spread that's a little more specific to spellwork. Does anyone have a spread that they use before spellcasting?
Thanks!

How about using a guidance spread:
Layout - straight line
the situation the spell is being used for
positive things that may result
negative things that may result
advise or outcome
or here's a yes/no spread
5 cards
.....1
2...3...4
.....5
1 representing the situation the spell is being used for
2/3/4 - the answer
5 - advise or outcome
the answer is determined by the elements of the 3 cards
3 active - yes do the spell
2 active - maybe - need to remove the obstacle - the card that is not active
3 passive- no
2 passive - probably not
active are wands and swords
passive are water and earth
