Ok.. I've heard of multiple techniques for shuffling... three times... til you like it...
What does everyone do, and why? Do you feel that one method is better than another?

I shuffle till I feel like stopping...I never do it the same way twice.
I do it that way b/c that's the way I do everything!
I don't like to take the same route to work each day.
I move my laptop from place to place.
My best friend would get ready for work, with a system...first she did this, then she did that, etc.
I would flit from one thing to the other....never in the same order.
I just have a hard time commiting, I guess

I just don't shuffle well at all, so I figure that the "wash" they get from being swirled around on the table before being picked up and ordered is good enough. I usually cut the cards in 3 piles, and do that 3 times, but that's me.

I tend to shuffle until I feel satisfied, and get the querent if doing a reading for someone else to do the same!

I shuffle like I'm shuffling a hand of poker!
Cut the deck...rifle the edges of the two halves together...arch them to make a bridge and put everything back in place...lather, rinse, repeat. I do this sort of in a meditative (read: "out of it!") state until something snaps inside me and says, "Enough of this, cut the deck now!" Then I cut the deck into three piles, pick them up in reverse order, and lay out the spread.
I haven't done a face-to-face reading yet, but I think I would probably want to do the shuffling of the cards myself because doing it makes me sort of tune in to them. I'd let the querent cut the deck into its three piles, though. Hmmm. Jury is still out on that. Interesting question. :)

I let the querent shuffle the cards any way they choose. After the reading, I cleanse my deck by shuffling for about an hour before I returned them to their home. (I don't give many in person readings.)
When I'm doing the shuffling, I let the card decide or maybe it's my chakra's that really decide. I get this warm sensation in my heart chakra when it's time to cut the deck and deal.
I don't feel any one way is the right way. If it works for you, then it must be right for you!

I shuffle hand over hand, no cutting the deck, no ruffling. :) I like continuity.

I shuffle until the deck feels shuffled...THEN, I cut it three ways..fold and do it again... THEN deal the first card from the bottom of the deck

I shuffle until I feel like it's time to stop. I then cut the deck into three, put them back together and shuffle for another 10 seconds or so. It usually varies everytime - I just go by what my instincts tell me.

I usually throw them on my bed, swirl them a bit, and then try to get them into some order. if my hand feels drawn to a certain card, I know I can stop there.
I heard somewhere, that if you're shuffling and a card falls out, it's probally the card you want, any comments?

I wish I could riffle and bridge... I shuffle like a kindergardener. And I'm married to a Poker dealer, how funny is that?!

If a card falls out, I take notice. It's yelling at you!

Yup, I always take notice of these cards as I feel that they are usually really really trying to tell me something. I keep this card in mind when doing the actual reading.

I dont shuffle at all - IMO tarot works on the surmise that you intentionally pick which card you need to see (sort of a transference of information between your (collective) unconscious and your consiousness). So, if you know what card you're going to pick anyway, why bother shuffling?
edit: but I dont take cards from the topof the deck, I sort of feel which one I should pick by running them through my hands.

I can't shuffle. I'm pretty pathetic. I just keep cutting until I feel like I've got enough little piles and then put them back together in random order.
However my mate is a magician, and I've been trying to get him to teach me how to shuffle, but whenever I bring my cards we seem to forget.
And, as funny as it sounds I'm a little afraid to shuffle like you would a deck of playing cards because I don't like bending my tarot cards. 0.o
