Hexs are misunderstood for the most part. They are normally done through anger energy, like, say you were majorly pissed, and you said, Death to all your cattle to somone. The energy there would be a hex. In my opinion, n e way.

Negative energy directed at a person. Say you raised energy and pointed at a person and said, " Death to all your cattle!" this would be a hex. On the opposite end, a charm would be like, in my opinion, Raising energy and saying " May your cows be eternally fertile." ;)

And do you have to know them personally, or is some other link enough?
Just wonderiing, because I think I had one put on me by someone a few years ago. I'm fine now, the effects didn't last long because I received help from the local Spiritualist Church.
However, shortly after that, this person had a breakdown and lost all her powers (not my doing, I wouldn't know how!), which to this day have not returned.

No, but it helps. Hexes can be worked into sympathetic magick. So, a link is enough. A lock of hair, photo, or anything with there energy is enough. My friend got hexed when she left her athame at an open ritual. They can be broken, if n e one wants to know how, i'll post it in magick and rituals. BTW, what path do you follow?

No and yes, I've been hexed before as well. They attacked my father and my familiar. At the time I mentioned a wierd dream I had (which turned out to be a warning) to a powerful Pagan friend of mine and she found the attacker on the astral realm and did something nasty. I'm not sure what, but she told me the person wouldn't be well enough to do much let alone cast negative energy again for a looong time.

Life-long Pagan, and recently started on a Druid path. Was initiated into a Grove on Midsummers Day, a wonderful day spent at a local Neolithic site, but most of the time we meet in the woods. I feel better now than i have for years, even though i've got the same long-running problems - amazing!
