As a Mystic Wick, I pledge, to this community, the following:

I shall cause no deliberate harm to others.
I will do my best to be who I am and
not force myself upon others.
I pledge tolerance of those that are here and that shall come.
I will be honest and true but try not to offend.

I am a member here and will do what I can when I can do it

It is a great pledge, however, I am only human.

Of course I would never intentionally harm someone, nor would I intentionally force myself on anyone. I really try to be tolerant, I am always honest, and I try really hard not to offend anyone....

I know I have failed in most that your pledge request.......

I voted no.

I said yes, because that is how I chose to live my life anyhow....
It is true, I am only human,....but I do the best I can.

It depends on the circumstances about 'cause no harm to others'.
I couldn't give such a promise, otherwise I generally try to live by the sentiments expressed here.

make it "no 'deliberate'harm to others", and I'm with you all the way. Inadvertently hurting someone is hard to avoid, really. Over the net, things can be taken the wrong way especially easily. Otherwise, sounds all good to me!

I have added "deliberate". When I wrote this, I assumed it as such. But you are correct and it needed to be inserted, not good to assume.

I still disagree, I would cause deliberate harm to others if they caused deliberate harm to me first. ie. if they sent negative energy or a hex and I felt real cause to worry I'd reflect it back on them, which is in effect deliberately harming...

Well I'm not *trying* to be difficult, I swear ;)

However, oaths are meant to be taken very sincerely, truly, and completely. When I take one I plan to live by it so I don't take them lightly :)

Umm... how about a Code of Ethics, instead of an Oath?

Semele
July 26th, 2001, 06:03 PM
Then can we have a group cheer and a song and a prayer to call our very own...like the serenity prayer for AA????

Just poking fun at ya Rick!!! I think we all have our own code of ethics...hopefully they include the same basic concepts. To try to encorporate one code to please and suit all our members may prove to be a difficult task at best.

FYI...I voted yup....I agree wholeheartedly and this is an easy oath for me.....but being the fluffy bunny I am I could never intentionally harm anyone even if they harm me first. If they sent me ugliness I may direct it back to them but I don't feel that would be me causing harm as they are the one who sent it out in the first place and I just gave it right back without any added energy from me.

.....but i feel sort of like i'm being accused of some future transgression i may or may not make!!
i think laying down rules is a good thing, but to ask a person for
their oath is another. We are "all" basically good people, and "pagan" as well.......... we already take our actions very searously, as do you!! So have a little faith in our good behavier,
if there is a transgression, well then; you may well ask again, for an "oath" of modified behavier.
i certianly never saw myself as any rebel or trouble maker.
but i think what you ask is wrong.
i just joined in here, and i thought here is a smart bunch of folks
no problems here!!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

You may well ask me to leave this site, or this board. but you should think about what this Old Crone has just left for you. it could well come in handy someday........

Blessing and gd'Evening,
Pasch

As I stated in another thread about Oaths...

I think every member has the responsibility of upholding the rules of this place. Every member here should just be themselves.

I understand what RnR is trying to say here...and it is a very noble gesture...

But no Oath should be taken, in my opinion, as Community members you should be just that...

Community members.

I do not want for any member here to think that there would be a oath involved in the community.

I have been to other sites that require it and, actually, I was offended. I was curious, though, as to how many would trully agree to an oath. While there is nothing wrong with an oath when becoming a member, I should point out that, once a member, it is easy to sit back and say, "What the heck did I just do?".

Here, all are welcome, and we all take an oath in accordance to our path and dedication to this site, and others - in some manor or another.

No preasure...

Just say, "I do". Or, better yet, "Yeah, right, whatever".

No harm,
RnR

There is no Oath required here and no one will ask you to leave. Blessings to you that you are here and you, I am sure, have much to offer.

This thread is just a poll - spawned of my own curiosity: nothing more. Believe you, me, when I say that you are not "being accused of some future transgression i may or may not make!!".

Not gonna happen. Not Here.

Blessings,

Yes! I try to uphold all of those things here anyway. :):):) I love my family and even though we may disagree sometimes...:), we are all still family. That is what helps family grow.

And I agree with Mol. No rules required, just a simple love and trust, and the rest of the bonds that make a family strong. The sense of acceptance among community.
I love coming here to be "myself" and I accept everyone here for whom they are.

I would definitely feel funny about taking an "oath" about a bulletin board system. I have taken very few "oaths" in my life and those were on matters that were far more serious than posts on a bulletin board.

I could honestly say that I could *try* to follow those suggestions as general rules of conduct for this bulletin board, but taking an "oath?" Nope.

This may not be a terribly politically correct thing to say, but I also have problems with the idea of being "tolerant, no matter what."

I don't think that we can, or should, tolerate everything that comes to us in our lives. There are things in this world that shouldn't be tolerated. Suppose someone comes on here and starts talking about their wonderful child porn collection, or how much they enjoy casting love spells to make people fall in love with them? Are we supposed to be tolerant of that?

Just my opinion.

Well, I for one have no problem with taking this Oath, seeing as how I try to follow those very same rules in life. I can honestly tell you that being a moderator here has changed me a bit. I was always pretty tolerant, but once you realize all of the differences out there, it can be hard at times to be level headed in the face of something that you completely don't agree with.

I don't feel weird about giving an Oath to this community at all. I have put a lot of work into it, as have many members and moderators. I have already made a big commitment here, and whether spoken or unspoken, the oath was made when I joined almost eight months ago.

The quote, "All love is unrequited," is by a guy named J. Michael Straczynski. It comes from his TV show "Babylon 5" and was said by the character Susan Ivanova played by Claudia Christian.

So now you all know I'm a big science fiction nerd...

And to think I should have known where it came from...I knew I heard it but couldn't remember from where...I have every episode and all the Babylon 5 movies on tape...sheesh!

Thanks! and Goddess Bless!
