Hi! I am Fireswimmer. I am definitely eclectic but the majority of my path falls within the realm of the modern day Mayan belief system. I went on an anthropology trip in college and felt liek i was coming home when I went to the Yucatan peninsula. I sat by the sacred well and listened to the Mayan speaker and suddenly knew that I was not alone. He was talking abotu things that I believed in. He was talking about things that other people were looking at me like I was insane when I talked about them!
I believe that everything has a spirit wether it is animate or inanimate. These spirits create the balance of the world. I do not believe in any particular gods or goddesses. The gods seem to have faded a bit from the Mayan religion. For the priests they are definitely a factor of every day life as well as the Shamans but for everyone else the spirits seem more important. I can understand that.
I mix the elementalism found in native American cultures, the Mayan culture, and waht feels right for me. I also mix in the personal experioences of living with four elemental spirits that I love but are enough to drive me crazy!!!!!
My husband follows a Norse path. Next summer we are renewing our vows pagan style... it should be interesting onceit all comes together. Eventually that will happen... I hope!! Currently I am having my doubts abotuever agreeing on a ceremony. We both treat the every days small things as religious and normally do not feel the need for big rituals. For me this is different because our initial wedding had no religion in it. We did nto know how to mix our religions back then. Next year is the big 10, and I had hoped we would be able to mix religions by now.
I live between Rochester and Syracuse New York. I love looking at what different religions have in common and I love going to drumming circles. I am a full time student and a full time worker.
Well, that is the intro that should have been posted quite a while ago.
