Hi

I am very new to Wicca, still learning the basics and am thinking about what I need to create my alter and what tools as well.

What I am looking for are tips on the very basics of what I might need to begin. I am doing this by myself, my husband knows only that I have an interest in it. While I gather and learn, I want to keep my tools and alter hidden, yet able to pull them out when I want.

In otherwords ... I need the basics until I feel more comfortable with what I'm doing.

What are they? Does this make sense? Thanks in advance!

hmmm...To start, I would think you would need candles (white can be used as a substitution for any color), incense, something to symbolize the elements....any thing that makes your space "feel" like a magickal space. You can build on your supplies from there, but those would be my basics.

Welcome!!!

Hi - Im still a "trainee".......even after a "coughs" few years......

A couple of books that might help as far as tools etc - Rae Beth - "Hedgewitch" and "21st Century witch" - cant remember the author.

My partner is ok about it - infact he is a self-convert as he noses around my books and favourite websites frequently. Sometimes sits with me while Im posting on MW. His interest is the "Green Man" Which kind of ties in with my whole study of the earth mother. Living in the country and being keen gardeners (herbs, veggies) we are close to the earth and her rythmns.

Whats your interest? :)

Hi Dragon

Thanks for the book recommendations. I'll have to check them out. As far as interests go, I have always been interested in Faerie, so the Celtic Wicca is appealing to me. BUT, for some odd reason, and although I know next to nothing about Strega Wicca, that is something that pulls me. Every time I see the word Strega as a study of Wicca, a little flag pops up. I think it is my intuition telling me to look into it at the very least.

My husband had an ex who was into Wicca. Both he and she met when they were both involved in the SCA (I can't recall exactly what it means) but they would dress in full Medieval garb and fight with swords and act the part. They did this a lot. He doesn't do it at all anymore, she was terribly obsessive about it and he knew there was more to life than just the SCA. He also used to own a booth a the Ren Fair in San Deigo, he braided hair!! He's damn good at it too. Anyway, he's very opened minded, so I don't think he'll mind. I just think it surprised him when he found "The Idiot's Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft' in the backseat of my car last weekend though. :eyebrow:

Hi,
Many moons ago, when I was a teenager and
interested in going this path for myself,I was forced
to keep it under wraps or else suffer the worse of consequences.
Anyway, candleburning was out of the question,so I used
stones that corresponded to the elements.I used embroidery
paints to make my pentacle in the center of my altar cloth.
I used a crystal for the center, representing spirit. As for the altar
itself I used a round hat box.I stored all my tools in this and stuffed
under my bed.Nobody ever had a clue the path I was taking!!!
I would cleanse my tools on the windowsill in my bedroom, catching
both lunar and solar energy.I would tell my parents they were my
rocks and they didn't want to be touched-so they never handled
them.Since then most of my tools have come to me in many ways.
As gifts mostly from Mother Nature herself, to find its place on my altar.
Take it slow and it will all come together for you as it should!!!
