A rose bush...you know the kind that is half grown and comes in a box, was placed in my garden a while back, but not under my care. The person who was supposed to look after it,...didn't.
It is now, since about a week ago, under my care and being watered and looked after, but it's been there for near on a month or more, and it seems that no growth has occurred. Do you think there's no hope for this rose? It seems to have rooted itself...but nothing is happening above ground.
Is it late...or uh...early for roses. I don't know because I have never grown any before. And truth be told, I'm not much of a gardener to begin with.:(
Any imput would be good. Thanks.

Roses require a lot of water when first settling in. Some plants take a while to get adjusted to their new home. No growth is okay, as long as what's there is not in decline. It is probably safe to start feeding it now, but I'd start half-strength every two weeks. I usually use fish-based products and also some bone meal scratched in. The thing to watch for with roses are aphids which you can kill with insecticidal soap, and fungus problems such as black spot and powdery mildew. I spray a garlic/ onion/ baking soda mixture every three weeks as a preventative. Good luck! I love smelly roses!

Don't worry. Roses take a while to settle in. It's putting down roots. It may not be very spectacular this year but next year, it will be gorgeous! You might want to "feed" it a banana peel. Just cut up the peel & mix it with some water & bury it around the base of the rose.
