anything that smells good! well, lavender is the herb of choice because
1 it smells nice and
2 the smell is supposedly sedative and sleep-inducing
3 the soft texture of the dried flowers makes it ideal for filling.
i once made one with lavender, orange blossoms and woodruff (all dried) and cinnamon (powdered). that was about two years ago, and it still smells lovely. if the smell fades, i just scrunch it up a little, and then it comes back.
:floating:
edited to add: once i saw a recipe for a herbal sleep pillow using hops and valerian. i could not imagine anything worse. they both smell like sweaty socks.
oh, and as to making the pillow, i just use cotton (double) and sew a square, leave an opening, stuff it with herbs, and sew it up. and then i put different covers on that i wash every now and then. i make these too, out of old wooly sweaters.

I do not find that orange blossoms smell terribly orangy. They have a hit of orange but they just smell more green to me if that makes sense.

my herb of choice is chamomile. I love it. I drink the teas. I soak in it. I just plain love it. Chamomile is very relaxing. Though I htink the buds need to be seeped for them to work. Not sure. But I highly recomed them if you're into chamomile.

Hi Silent lover! Hope the dream pillow making is going well. I forgot to tell you that there is a good thread on this started by Lamoondove in the dream and divination forum. If you use the search button there, you can find it. Oh, I miss Lamoondove. I want her to come back.

I LOVE dream pillows ~ I use them in my massage practice and I always use one at night to help me sleep ~ I Just made one recently that has lavendar, chamomille, oatstraw, roses, skullcap, lemon balm and mugwort in it. Although it was for a friend of mine, so I customized it to fit her.
MOst of mine just have lavendar and chamomile in it :)
Most all of them having flaxseed as a filler in it .. I also use covers so that I can wash them if needed. And depending on what I need physically depends on the type of cover I use. If it's been a long day, especially infront of the computer i'll use one that has more of a silky cool texture so help sooth my eyes. If it's cold or stomy out, like it is tonight I'll use something warmer and more comforting like Flannel or Cotton.
Have you made a pillow yet? :)
