NO I don't mean the woman who channels your great aunt Sofie.

What artists medium do you work with.

I am a potter, so I use stoneware clay.
I also use polymer clay
I am a painter so I use mostly acrylics and watercolor, but I loave colored pencil and oil pastels too.
I use material for sewing.
yarn and string for crochet
What do you all use and why do you love what you do?

Beads mostly, especially gemstone beads, although I've been having a ball with swarovski crystal as well lately. Making my own polymerclay beads has been a hoot as well.

It is such a great way to relax and orden the chaos in my head. ;)

Painting & drawing... Mainly Fantasy Art & Figurative Painting.
I'm currently working on a portrait of my good friend and her husbend (they just got married, and this is my wedding present to them)..
I also worked a lot in set design at plays & ceramonies, so I do a lot of that too..

I can do the crafts thing, but i dont cause i get lazy..

I work mainly with watercolors and watercolor pencils when drawing. Occasionally I use acrylics.

When sculpting, I use Sculpey or Super Sculpey:)
I guess I really have no one medium being that I do a wide assortment of different crafts.:)

I am a painter, acrylics and watercolor - also love to sketch/draw with pencil and charcoal, acrylic colored pencils. My work is very sporadic and I work in binges.........I once drew a Nararaj Shiva in all #2 pencil.

Oof.....lessee
My main obsession is beads so...glass, swarovski crystal, gemstones and bone.
I use a lot of lead making miniatures for gaming, acrylics and inks for painting them,
paper, I like to write stories,
wood, stick and branches, I have a set of wands I'm working on and a staff or two from the old corkscrew willow.

For drawing...pencils (just about any kind will do, but I prefer mechanical), Sakura Micron Pigmas for inking. For coloring, I prefer Prismacolor colored pencils and markers. I tend to use a combination of the two, as well as adding a touch of paint here and there for highlights.

I also like painting everyday objects and making them something special. I have a portable altar that I just love. It was made from one of those $15 accent tables that have the round top and 3 removable legs. I just removed the legs, and the metal pieces that attached them, and painted it black, with a pentacle in the center, with elemental symbols painted at each quarter. I really need to get a pic of that up in my gallery. I've also painted small pieces of furniture for my kids. One was a table made out of a piece of an old door with old sofa legs I painted white, with a rainbow checkerboard trim. And I painted a couple of unfinished rocking chairs (which have since fallen apart :p).

pencil, charcoal, pastels. sometimes acrylics or oils, but not very often. Honestly, I don't do much of anything anymore. I used to draw, sketch, paint, and do some ceramic work. Also used to sing. Just kinda lost all that somewhere along the way.

Wow lots to respond to.

First of all Prismacolors kick a$$! I preach them to the world.
I've never used their markers because I'm not into markers that much.

I use lots of different kinds of paint. What ever is on sale, but the cheaper brands don't tend to have a much pigment in them. So a better brand is really saving money because you don't have to use as much.
some brands have certtain colors that I like. Grumbacher has a red that I like.

I use acrylics like I said mostly because they don't smell and dry quickly, however there is something to be said for things drying slowly. I guess it depends on the look I want.

Oil pastels differ too. I got some Yarka, I believe is the name of them and they are like silk to use. Beautiful to work with. See I don't mind oily stuff on my hands or paint. I don't like chalk pastels cause of the chalky feel.
Clay is like that too but I just wash my hand alot.

I have a great watercolor kit. Little take along with a small brush. But it's hard to find the half pans to replace the paint. I like pans better than tubes b/c the tubes dry out.

BEADS. I've made beads of sculpey too but I dont make many. I like to cover things with sculpey. I love swaraski.. (sp). I have a collection of small crystal animals.
Clay is my main sculpture medium.
I'm lucky that I have a kiln. I fire to a cone 6. Some day I'm going to build a cone 10 gas fired kiln. Yes I will..........!

Doing that portrait for your friends wedding is very nice Morr.

Merris Hawk. You have molds for your figures.???

Dextra, I like doing furniture too.

Aine don't give up.

I use photo shop too but I am a novice.

thank you all for responding... :)

hmmm...
i haven't worked with pastels in awhile, but they are my favorite. And I like pencils better than pen & ink.

I'm learning, and making things with the sculpey, which I'm so glad to have found out from all ya'll. :)
I like the Apple Barrel Colors, but that's basically what's to be found here. They are good though.

I am a simple knitter & crotcheter, I've done some complicated work, but I like the free flow of simplicity.
My favorite needle to use while crotcheting is about as big around as my index finger, and the afgans i make with it are soooo soft, I just love using it.

I like to do decopage.:)
I have been collecting Cynthia Hart's Victoriana Calendar's for several years now, one day i'm gonna decopage a dresser, table & chair, in them.
I've been collecting cutouts from magazine's, to decopage my daughter's dressers with, in kid interest stuff.
My oldest daughter inheired an old flour bin cabinet, I painted and decopaged it. it looks nice.
And I get every empty 'Justin' boot box I can talk someone out of.
I take and decopage them and then use them for storing holiday stuff, I hang the decorations on the tree, then place the boxes beneath, for decoration as well.
((Really cool! you should try it)) ;)

I like to embrodery, but haven't done that in a very long while, kinda burnt myself out on it I guess.
I sew, sometimes...
I love to cross-stich. :boing:

I love to redecorate, when I move to a new house, I start sprucing up. Just love that!

I use to sing as well, all the time, but one day my heart was kicked under the frig, with the ice cubes and I stopped singing, for several years...
thankfully my heart has found a new growth, and I've begun to sing again!
:D

I love to sing. But I don't much. My kids always told me to be quiet... :(

I crochet. But hate to knit.
Can't get the hang of it.
I'm glad your heart has found new growth too...:)

Heh, I enjoy drawing on regular computer paper with #2 pencils. Mostly nudes of women. Don't ask, it's just something I enjoy doing, getting the beauty of a woman on a piece of paper. And I don't need a model(sp). ^^

There is nothing wrong with the female form. I enjoy drawing and painting them. Male as well. But as an art teacher, I can't help but suggest that you use a model or a picture at least. But I just had to say it, you don't have to take the advice.:)

You know, it's funny, when they were little babies, I'd sing, and I guess they could hear the sadness, *shrugs* I dunno...and they would cry, but now that they are bigger, we'll go riding down the road, all of us singing with the radio.
And it's pretty cool to hear a 3 year old singing! the nine year old as well, but it tickles me to hear the baby singing country songs!

Merris Hawk. You have molds for your figures.???

Between the brother-in-law and myself we've got a small collection of them. Trying to get more of the dragon molds poured lately, he's picked up a few painting tricks I envy. Should have pics soon.

The newest set of molds is for castles. Plaster of paris or dental plaster works great for these. The peices are small like Legos and you put them together and paint. Will have pics up soon of the bridges and the tower that are nearly done.

I also like pencil sketching when I get the time.

That sounds really interesting.
When I was in college we had a foundry so I got to do some bronze casting. But of course now that's over. The only lead I ever cast was when my Ex husband used to cast his own bullets for target practice.

I'm mainly a computer graphics chic, but I also do a little charcoal drawing, and some pencil.. when I really have time to burn..lol.

My charcoal drawings are still new to me, only did my first one a few months ago, but really enjoy it. Attached (nude.jpg) is the third drawing I did in it.

I also do a little beadwork, nothing fancy, but it lets me zone out and relax when I need to. (butterfly.jpg, rubyred.jpg)

That's my favorite subject as well. If you go look at my gallery in the member pictures, I've got nearly a dozen of them there. It's just something I was drawn to, and I seem to do better with drawing women than I do with men.

I use pen to draw. Yarn to Crochet, and fabric to Quilt or just sew things. (Love sewing things) Food because I like to cook and bake, and I do make it into an artform. ;) Flowers when I make wreaths or crowns, Wood I just started with recently, carving and burning.

I love to cook, but don't get to do a lot of what I want now that we are sharing a house with my folks. My mom and dad are very set in their gastronomical ways.

Boerbabe, love the drawing. Very well done.

Let's see. Of course, polymer clay is my main medium. But I also incorporate wires and beads.

I have, in the past, done the following:

tat
crochet
knit
ribbon embroidery
crossstitch
leaded glass
sew (but don't much like it, no talent)
fabric paint (also not very talented at this)
sing (my kids say badly)

Guess that about covers it!

I was looking at your home page. A lot of people out here in Texas raise Boer Goats. I'd kind of like to get some type of milk goat, but I really don't think I am amitious enough to get up daily and milk a goat !!!

boerbabe
April 11th, 2004, 09:02 PM
It's not hard, just takes some practice and getting used to! We have one dairy doe, and she's barely pregnant for her first time. But we won't even be milking her much, and definately won't be drinking it.

Instead she'll be milked for a short time to freeze the milk in case we have any orphan kids. Saves a lot of money, since formula will cost about $80. to raise a kid to weaning, vs. a few dollars in grain and milking off what we have...lol.

Another thing, if you might be serious about getting a milker is that unless it is a goat that's producing well over a gallon a day, you may be able to get away with milking only once a day, although you'll still need to keep to a fairly regular schedule. Also, once they begin lactating, a good doe will have up to a 10 month lactation.

But I do have to agree to that it's work- I milk our girls as we wean the kids, once a day, for about a week. My hands cramp badly, and they ache sometimes from it. But any repetitive motion does that to me.

I just get such a kick out of watching them. I drive A LOT and I love to watch the little ones on my drive.
I am just thinking that I might like to make a small amount of goat cheese. Not that I even like it. I am just always thinking of somthing that I might enjoy doing. Plus I don't know if I could make any money with it.

I've done cross stich but I don't really like it. Crochet, crossstich and embroidery
make my neck hurt if I do it too long. Probably tension..

I've never done leaded glass, though I ahave always wanted to, but it is quite expensive to get into.

MOON DUST, I've always wanted to cast candles too just haven't. I do too much stuff.

It's hard to get really good at something when you spend so much time doing so much other stuff. I should probably settle on just painting and pottery, but I enjoy learning new stuff.

All sorts of stuff, really, just depends on what I'm doing.

you don't need much if you're just starting out! I have houndreds of dollars worth of stuff because I'm tentatively in the business/major hobby stage. All you need is wax, wick, and whatever you're wanting to cast them out of. Heck you can use those pint sized milk cartons of you like!
