I got this off a list I belong to. I think it's a great activity you can do with your kids too! It's being posted here with permission.
Items Used:
Glass aquarium, no lid
rich potting soil
small ferns (they don't need direct sunlight)
small white pebbles
natural rocks from outside
thimble
willow twigs
1. Clean out aquarium with warm soapy water. Don't use any harsh
chemicals. Vinegar is wonderful for cleaning and shining up glass.
2. After aquarium is cleaned, fill the bottom of it up with about
four inches of potting soil.
3. Plant ferns.
4. Put in a thin layer of white pebbles.
5. Gather a few larger stones for the faeries to sit on and place
them inside the aquarium.
6. Willow twigs, or dogwood, can be used to make more faery
furniture. Bound together, they make great little lean-to's.
7. A thimble can be used to leave juice offerings inside the
aquarium. Keep thimble clean and place fresh juice in it each night
before going to bed.
