My entire family is in mourning. Dale Sr. has been their favorite NASCAR driver for a very long time. I send my sincerest condolences to his family, friends, and collegues.

The world lost Dale Earnhardt to a racing accident yesterday at the Daytona 500. He was #12 in line, and lost control of his car; he hit the outer wall at 180mph. It's speculated he died of massive head injuries.

But, "knowing" Dale the way I do, it was "perfect" ~ the Daytona 500, last lap, last turn ~ He'd have wanted it that way.

yeah. it was the last lap. His son came in 2nd. Waltrip came in 1st and was overjoyed, until he heard the news, of course.

It's all so ... unreal.

I was listening to "JohnBoy and Billy" on the radio on the way home this morning, and men were calling in and crying ~ I had to pull over and "take a break", myself.
