View Full Version : What is normal???

Ok the other night Mol and I were tlaking about computers and whether or not most "normal" people own more than one. He looked absolutely astonished at my suggestion that most households have only one...and i might add function perfectly well!! He seems to think that is just unnatural, so I thought I'd do a little poll and see if any other MW members are as freaky as him.
So let's hear it guys!!!

Define Working.
I understand that Mol is a freak but I do have 4 PC's in the house. 1 of which can be turned on by the power switch. The rest require a boot disk - but they work, I guess.

Nope, you're right, Semele...Mol's a freak  ;) :D
We have only one computer at home....not a very good computer mind you, but it runs and my hubby and I are semi-happy with it. It's sort of a Heinz 57 of computers. My brother built it for us about a year and a half ago. So if it weren't for him, I guess we wouldn't have one, so I should be thankful!!! :D

We got three now, one for each of us.
It's a small price to pay for the peace it now brings -
Son no. 2 - "Hurry up, you've been on it for two hours already!"
Son no. 1 - "Get lost, i got it working in the first place, so I'm having longer"
Son no. 2 - "Thats not fair, I'm at school all day, you're sitting here using it all day!"
Son no. 1 "Tough"
Mum comes home from work.
"Off you get, got to check my e-mail"
Son no. 1 - "In a minute, I'm just downloading something for my exam"
Two hours later...............

We just have one. Brand spanking new as of about 6 weeks ago. We'll be paying for it for about 25 years, but got it due to stepsons mild dyslexia. He won't open a book, but will read on a computer. That's likely normal for kids nowadays. I'm on it the most though, since I'm home all day. I end up doing the housework at night now, when hubby and stepson are hogging MY computer 8O !

I was just thinking about leaving a post to that effect the other day.
We have 5 computers.
File server,
Router server,
Matt's gaming machine,
My desktop,
My laptop
The desktops range from a 266 to an AMD K6-2 350 with between 64 and 128m RAM and the laptop is a 166 with 32 m RAM. They are all complete, up, and running 24/7.
People think we're nuts :)
Even my parents have 2 computers and my mom just learned how to type :)

We have 2...one really old Mac that barely turns on...and this one. This one's a loaner from my MIL while they're away until Sept. *sigh* I guess we'll have to buy one now if I want to stay on at Mysticwicks!
On the bright side, I just got internet access at work & can read the posts from there. On the down side, it's going to be so hard not to spend all my time here. ;)

We have two at the moment....the one I'm using, and our webserver.... but that will change as time and money allows. Some day our entire house will be networked together with a computer in each room, plus servers and all that other techie stuff....so I've been told.... so some day it'll be insane.

Ok.
On our home network we have 3 workstations. One for each of us here. Semele, Dravin, and I.
I also have two linux boxes for development purposes.
I have 2 old XT's which are also used for development purposes.
I have another machine I am building that will be used for embedded development. Speaking of that...I am working on an embedded device with a tcp/ip stack and a webserver. A web server the size of a pack of cigraettes. Too cool.

We only have one but are saving up for a second since we both play Everquest and let me tell you, you may think you're only gonna be on for an hour or so when logging into that game, then suddenly it's 5 hours later! So, maybe Mol's just a step ahead of the rest of us=)(american tv ad incoming) "Like the guy who wore pants instead of bushes" (I can't remember what commercial that is, but I chuckle everytime I even think about it lol....sorry, got sidetracked

I have 3. One for each of us (almost).
The one I'm using is the only one with a monitor right now. :( (All the others crapped out on me all at once!) I have parts everywhere! AND I'm working on getting another one together so that when my youngest (he's 3) is a little older, he'll have his own too. The way I'm going, this will be doubled in a few years.

well, me and my hubby are hitting hard financial times. we are staying with my family *ugh* and i only have one computer running.
i have two in my possesion, plus he has one that he needs to get back from the people he was staying with before they kicked him out (long horrid story).
Eventually we'll have all three plus the new machine i plan to build (i need a nice little graphics workstation so i can actually produce things at a reasonable rate), so that will be four, and eventually there may be more machines.. since we kinda want a mini-studio where we can perhaps work from home someday....
that doesn't include the fact that I WILL have a laptop... it will be my one and only child and I will love it like my own flesh *until the next model comes out a week later.... gulp*

There are three between the two of us, and possibly more on the way.
Semele, if you really want to freak Mol out, tell him most families DON"T own a computer at all! Although we're getting there. When I look at statistics, I still can't believe the number of Americans without phone or a television. Amazing...
