I was eating in a Chineas restaurant the other day & I was drinking what I was told was: ooh long tea (I really dont think I spelled that right, sorry). Anyways I was told it can make you loose wieght. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any herbs that can be put together that you can eat or make a drink of to loose weight? Thank You!

There are threads in the health and beauty section about weight loss. I would not reccomend trying to do it with herbs. The best weight loss is done the old fashion way of cutting back on calories and increasing your exercise. That method is tried and true.
Drinking tea is a good thing if you do it without cream milk or sugar because it is water. Drinking 64 ounces of water is a great habit to get into. If you are a soda drinker then it cuts the calories dramatically.

I haven't had that in ages.
One psychologist offered some advice;
"Don't ever think of it as 'losing weight', think of it as getting rid of the weight. Your mind processes the idea of losing anything as bad and can hinder your diet."

*agrees* I believe in the good old fashioned way - instead of trying new remedies n such! I try to stress that the old fashioned way is best to my sis, but she doesn't listen & prefers Atkins.... she still hasn't lost any weight!

I find the Atkins diet very scary. I know that there is supposed to be a lot of positive research done on it. The problem is that most of it was done by Atkins. We discussed it in Anatomy and Physiology. My teacher was well and truly against it and mentioned things like renal failure. He pointed out that the super high protein diets do not take into account that your body has limited storage for protein and has to get rid of it. That puts a lot of stress on your organs.
I do agree that Americans need to eat fewer carbs, but in general Americans need to eat less period.
Eek, I am sorry, I somehow turned you agreeing withme into a rant. I have colleagues that are continuously trying to do the Atkins diet and it is often a discussion topic. I used to be a dietetics major and I get so annoyed with the deliberate disregard for human physiology in some of the outrageous diet trend claims.

:) don't worry! I so totally agree!
My sister would sit down with fries, kebab meat & mayo... i'd say "i thought you were on a diet" she said "yeh, you can eat this on the atkins diet"......
 Sounds so stupid to me, reason why she likes it is because she can eat loads of fatty foods.... Maybe the Atkins could work if you used it properly & ate foods in proportion, but i really don't recommend it at all!

This is some excellent advice! I had never thought of it that way until it was said. Thanks!

There's caffeine in tea and that can speed up your metabolism, but that isn't really the best way to diet. Both black and green tea are rich in antioxidants, though and a cup a day is a good idea - there are many health benefits involved.
I agree with most of the posters though - eat less, exercise more. If you really need help, talk to your doctor. Start small - take long walks and keep a diary of all your food intake for the day. The average adult woman only needs about 2000-2200 calories a day so try not to consume any more than that.
Good luck :)

I am in the process of ridding myself of excess weight due to children and then my own laziness. I drink a lot of herbal teas. not to "lose weight" but for various health reasons. but i do think that teas can help you , along with a healthy diet, exercise and a postive mindframe. :)
atkins is scary to me and i don't care how many people say they lose weight it is just unhealthy. I would rather have a few extra pounds and my health than be skinny and eating a diet that was so harmful to me.

Tried and true definitely works! It seems to be very important that anyone wanting to lose weight finds a diet or system that can be reasonably managed.
As to Atkins and other diets... My sister just lost 50+ pounds between November 20 and April 1 on a low-carb diet (South Beach). She said the biggest thing that helped was riding her bike every day.
About six years ago, I also lost 50 pounds in five months on Weight Watchers. I was already very active, so for me the biggest difference was changing my diet. Snacking on carrots instead of potato chips, for example. Making breakfast and lunch my primary meals instead of dinner.
This past January I went back on Weight Watchers because I had gained about 10 pounds back. I've lost 8 of it, and it has taken me 3 months to do that.
Supplements... Rigth now I'm taking the Atkins Diety supplements (starter packs are available). I've noticed a big different for me when I'm regularly working out and taking these vitamins. Not the 'eat this and you'll lose weight' pills like T-Lite and others (tried those, didn't work for me). Read the labels on some of those 'diet enhancing' supplements and you'll be surprised at the listed side-effects...
Good luck!

I was on the south beach diet for a while, I lost about 15 pounds... unfortunatley fell off the wagon, gained it back... I'm planning on going back on it soon. It worked well for me because it helped me regulate my eating, so I ate 3 meals a day, instead of going "oh crap, it's 2 pm, I haven't eaten!" and having one big meal. Also, the way it is forumated, it was VERY good for me because it helped me regulate my blood sugar like nothing else. (I've got hypoglycemia). It was balanced, and the way it handled carbs helped me stabelize a lot.
As for really spicy food, it may help you lose weight in the fact that hot things (cayanne pepper, etc) really do speed up your metabolism a little bit. They won't do the trick on their own, but if you eat the same meals bland, or really spicy, you'll probably lose weight, or at least gain less, with the spicey version.
