Another one I made myself (this time with a matching purse!), from a recycled wool skirt, green velvet and orange cotton for a lining - it compliments my bright orange coat beautifully!

it took an awfully long time to learn to use a sewing machine (I started my first bag last march and it took months n months n months!) and stuff like that, so it hasn't been easy-peasy. I have it honed down to 2 full days to make a bag now though, which is a long time and a lot of work, but a definite improvement!

That's really cute. I have an obsession with bags but I am not too good at sewing my own. They always break (boo hoo). I will have to practice i guess. Have you got an tips?

Mine has held a bag of sugar and all my crap in the past and has been ok :)

1) Dont underestimate the difference in quality and strength between a good thread and a cheap one.
2) Use a sewing machine if you can - much stronger than hand sewing. Borrow one from a relative if you can :)
3) Line it with something strong but thin so that you can still stitch through the material! Calico is a good choice.
4) Double or triple stitch the important bits - where the straps join, where the base joins etc.

Where abouts do they break in particular?
