Samhain dates I have seen for Australia.
April 30th.
May 1st.
May 3td.
Please explain? Which is the real date?
And isn't there a full moon on Samhain?

Way way back in the day, a day actually started at sundown the night before. So you would have April 30th night on into May 1st day as the holiday.
As for May 3rd, it might be the exact date that falls between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice. Some people like to celebrate on the exact midpoint, and since the Equinoxes and Solstices change by a few days every year, the midpoint changes too.
Take your pick- they're all good. :)

Well I'm celebrating regardless ... on April 30th ... just because it feels right.

I like May 1st. The start of a new month.

on that note, I think I'm gonna celebrate beltane on May Day (isn't that when it was traditionally celebrated anyway?) which is the 3rd. (the dilemma)
PS there's a full moon here on the 4th - I assume its same world over?

From what I gather, you guys from down uncer do the exact opposite of the Northern Hemisphere... So you can either use the "traditional date" for our Beltaine, usually May 1st, or the astrological timing which is when the Sun hits 15 degrees of Taurus, which this year is either the 5th or 6th depending on your time zone.
For Astrological timing reference, the solstices and equinoxes are at 00 degrees of their signs. (Each sign has 30 degrees, counted from 0-29) 00 Aries is Spring Equinox, 00 Cancer is Summer Solstice, 00 Libra is Mabon/Fall Equinox, 00 Capricorn is Winter Solstice/Yule. Obviously in Australia you would use the opposites, so 00 Aries would be your Mabon etc...
Anyways the cross-quarter festivals are at 15 degrees of their signs: Beltaine-15 Taurus, Lammas-15 Leo, Samhain-15 Scorpio, and Imbolc-15 Aquarius. (Again pick the opposite of the wheel for Australia.)
My question to you is: does it really seem like fall down there? Are the season reversals literal? :) Just my eternal curiousity at work.

Not where I am lol. I live in South Australia and it's still quite warm here. The only way I can tell it's autumn is that the leaves have started to fall off the tree at the front of my house - all the rest of our trees are evergreen so it's still feels like summer.
I usually celebrate on the reversed traditional date so that's May 1st for me, although the astrological timings have given me something to consider for future dates.

Was it this one? http://www.paganspath.com/magik/southhem.htm
I bookmarked it :)
As for me, I will be celebrating Samhain on May 5th, because following a psuedo-traditional date seems silly to me. There is also a full moon on this night :floating:
