For those of you who have already been pregnet...or that are....can you please tell me what are some FOR SURE signs of pregnency.
Okay, heres my story. I'm late on my period....by like, 3-5 days (depending on the 28 day cycle and 30 day cycle...which I vary) It seems EVERY month, I freak out about this if I'm a couple day's late (which I usually am) But, like I "feel" these signs around this time...like I always tend to eat so much more before I start my period. My stomach begins to bloat.....(a little fetus?) see, I don't know...I've never had a baby before. So, if you've been a mom (or are going to be) what is a sign that is unmistakeable?

Most of those honeslty just sound like regular period symptoms to me. And if you're "always" a couple days late, your cycle is probably just longer than you thought. Many women don't have a regular 28 or 30 day cycle. One of my friends has hers every 6 weeks, on the clock... but until she realized it was just longer, she freaked out every time.
A lot of people eat more right beforehand... you're about to undergo bloodloss, and your body craves more nutrients. I know I crave more meat, salt, and iron before I start my period. And the bloating is probably water retention, which is also very common.
I've never been pregnant, myself, (thankfully!) but I'd say more definate symptoms would be being VERY late (weeks or months, not days), morning sickness later on, hormonal mood swings (later on)... the only sure sign within the first month or so is to take a pregnancy test. That'll tell you before you'll feel a lot of physical symptoms.
Are you wanting TO be pregnant, or hoping not to be?

Well, since I'm only 20, I really don't want to be. But if I was, that would be great too. I know, I'm just a worry wort. I've tried to count how ofton I start....but it is always so different. I know I'm probably not...but what if, one time I was? That's what I keep telling myself. I would take a pregnency test...but they're not that cheap...and I dont't have the money to spend on that. Besides...I've done that so many times in the past...and I always felt so stupid for wasting money, when I should've known I wasn't. But thanks for your help...it makes me feel better. Blessed Be.

You can get a store-brand pregnancy test for less than $10. And if you honestly believe you may be pregnant, it's worth the price. Because if you are, the sooner you are under a doctor's care for it, the better. But I agree with Isil, it sounds like normal pre-menstrual symptoms to me.
With me, I knew when I was pregnant. Matter of fact, when I got pregnant with my kids, I went to the doctor in April of 1999 before taking a home test. They did a test and it came up negative. So I decided it was a good idea to get on some birth control, and made an appointment for the next month. But I still felt like there was something up. When I went to my appointment for my shot (I was going to go on Depo-Provera), they did another pregnancy test, just to make sure. I was pregnant. I found out later that I'd been pregnant since that Feburary, but their test didn't pick up on it. That November, I had my twins. Strange story, I know, but that was just my experience.

I believe most women report having swollen and tender breasts as one of the first signs they're pregnant... much more sensitive than the usual monthly tenderness. Hormonal changes also make women need to pee a lot. Not every pregnant woman experiences tiredness, but it seemed like every time I sat down during the first month I would nod off. Being pregnant can also cause changes in your blood pressure and make you feel dizzy when you stand up too quickly. And another sure sign for me at least was being sensitive to odors. For every woman it's a personal thing, the smell of potatoes cooking would always make me hurl. But all these signs were just confirmation of my intuition telling me that I was going to have a baby.
Oh, and missing a period is not one of the best signs. I had two somewhat lighter-than-usual periods after getting pregnant.

It takes a while for the symptoms to start. you've got to be around 3-4 weeks late. Then again, I've easy pregnancies...

Just my thoughts. I *knew* within 5 days of missing my irregular period that I was pregnant with my son, even though I had an IUD. The symptoms I had included *extreme* breast tenderness and my areola's (sp?) were quite a bit darker and larger than usual.
But, if you are stressing about this, it can play havoc on your cycle, so I'd go buy one of generic store brands and take the test, if nothing more, it will ease your mind.

:geez: Don't panic :collapse:
You sound just fine. I have a 7 month old son. I was preggers at 20. Trust me.. if you are preggers you WILL know it! LOL. I think that your body is just a little off schedule. If your super concerned, dont get a store test.. I tried 3 and all were negative! :bouncybob
Just go to emerg tell them preggers symptoms and tell them u dont know whats wrong.. they will automatically give u a test. Thats 100% accurate.
If your not preggers.. then remember keep the sausage wrapped because you dont need a belly ache if you over eat! LOLOLOLOL :smileroll

Add me to the "sounds like PMS" camp. My first symptom was nausea with smells. That was less than 2 weeks after we had our fertility treatment and right around the time my period was due. I have pretty significant breast tenderness with PMS, so that wasn't an accurate sign for me.
See if there is an organization in your town that offers free pregnancy tests - often times there are. But - I would wait until you are at least a week late, more like 2-3 weeks late before testing, particularly with your cycle history. Mine runs between 26 and 34 days and that's "normal" for me.
PS - if you're "freaking out" every month, perhaps you might want to rethink your method of birth control? Or be more diligent in using it? I dunno, but if there's a chance you could be pregnant and you'd rather not be, these might be valid suggestions. I'm not in your bedroom, so again - I dunno! ;)

Well, I talked it over with my husband, and if I did use some sort of birth control, I would still worry. My mom got pregnet with me while on the pill and using a condem. I know there is ALWAYS a chance. I don't know why I worry. I mean, every friggin' month. It never fails. I just went through my planner and my average cycle is 29-33 days. And the 33 day mark was yesterday....I know,I know, there's a first time for everything. I just wanna start, ya' know? I've been kinda having cramps...but I heard that was normal. I've also been nauseated...mostly all this month. I just don't know. I want to take a test, to ease my mind. But I'll feel so stupid if I'm not. Which I'm probably not. But watch, my luck , I'll finally convince myself that this is "normal" for me to be late every month, and I'll be pregnet. I'm going to try to stop worring about it....thanks for all of your help. You ladies rock! Blessed Be.

When do you start any kind of weight gain? I heard that at very first you actually LOSE weight, but when does that end and the gain begin? Maybe I'm just getting fat....lol.

Some women don't gain weight for several months, others lose weight, still others gain slowly from the beginning. Of course, you could also retain water premenstrually too.
I forgot to mention - there are ways to track your fertility in addition to normal bc methods. Check out the book"Taking Charge of Your Fertility" - it's an awesome reference tool that really helps you get to know your body so that you KNOW your fertility signs. Natural family planning really does work if it's done properly.

Yup. And you can decide the sex of the baby too.. Kinda cool. I like to hear that other women are doing this. Around here when I tell my friends what I do for birth control, they look at me like I'm an alien.

sore chest was always my first sign... usually started about 3-5 days before I was due. I never had the sore chest with PMS so that's always been a pregnancy thing for me. and I'm not talking a little sore... this was a 'don't even look at them because you will make them hurt and then I'll have to kill you' sore.

Pregnancy and PMS/Af symptoms will almost always be the same symtpoms as it's the same hormone that causes them. You become progesterone dominant after you ovulate and if you become pg the progesterone sticks around & then begins to increase in order to keep the pregnancy viable. It is also this same hormone that gives us all of our not so great monthly symptoms.
So it really is a guessing game until you've taken a test that confirms pregnancy. You could have sore breasts one month and then not the next, bloating one month and then not the next ~ I think the only thing that really helped me was my gut intuition ~ I just knew I was pg the times I have been, and the other times even though I stressed over weather I was or not, I knew deep down I wasn't.

I guess for some people it's easier to take a pill. Don't like what that does to my body though...of course, we're battling infertility issues again so we haven't used bc for over a year.

OK. It sounds as if you don't want to be pregnant rigt now...it also sounds as if you are just experiencing standard pre-menstrual symptoms.
Get a test to make sure....then if you're sure you're not pregnant, *absolutely* sure...and you really don't want to be anytime soon....go and get some birth control. Now.
You are stresssing out every month...you don't sound as if you're wanting to be pregnant anytime soon...and I know no method of birth control iis 100% reliable...but it's a hell of alot more reliable than crossing your fingers every month.
Take some responsibility for your body, your sex life and for the potential unborn child who deserves to be more than an unwanted afterthought because you didn't look into responsible options.

If you are having a monthly wig out over a potential pregnancy that in itself will mess you up cycle wise. I strongly suggest a review of your birth control method. Find a provider you can talk to...it's worth the hunt. You also want to take a hard look at your child bearing plans. then you can adopt birth control that will work for you.
Any pee test can be made more accurate by using your first morning trip to the bathroom when the hormone is most concentrated. I have had name brand tests accurate at 2 days late.
hugs to you!

Guess what, I took a pregnency test last night and it was negative and I was going to take another (2 in box) in the am because last night I drank alot of water and my pee was pretty clear, so I figured there might still be a chance.....so, I woke up this morning and I finally started! I told you, that's just my luck, I waste money a damn test and the VERY next day I finally start. The wierd thing is, is that I was a little disapointed. I know that's crazy, but after thinking I may be, I warmed up to the idea. Well, anyways, I guess I'm not. Thank you all so very much for your advice and help. Blessed Be.

You should be ok fromh what I've read here. Do you get any cravings before your period? That's usually one of my symptoms. I hate Penutbutter, I hate the smell the texture, everything, but as soon as I'm going to start I'm craving peanutbutter sandwiches! Whenever I think I'm getting late I do some quick math then think "how does peanutbutter sound?" if it's a "yeah, I'd love some Reeses pieces" then I know it'll be here soon.
Not toworry hun. The more you worry the more you hold it back :D
