Well 1st of all.. How do you say that? (I don't really like the word lammas instead) Hehe, b/c I just know that is an Irish word and they say that the people who decided how to spell the gaelic language was not only drunk, but mean drunk! Like making a 1 syllable word 12 letters long. = ) But anyway on to my real question, What does everyone usually do for this holiday? Like mabye something that isn't too formal, because I feel kind of like a weirdo doing these big complicated rituals. (ps I have been leaning towards wiccan, but any druidic or other pagan variations would be helpful. Who knows I may like them better than wicca so .. ) And background info on the holiday would be appreciated too. Thanks everyone, and please respond soon so I can prepare a little before the 1st. Thanks !!

I'll be leaving thankyous for the Fae, this being first harvest and all. I'll also be baking a couple types of bread, most likely beer bread and corn bread. Making a braid with fruit in it would be nice too.

loo-nah-saah .... It means "the god Lugh" (Lugh) and "to give in marriage" (nassad), and is meant to celebrate Lugh's marriage to Rosemerta.

Any particular reason you're celebrating on the first?

I celebrate High Days as they fall astrologically, not according to calendar dates. This year, Lughnassad falls August 7th.

K I'm lost, Mari.

I know the four minor Sabbats fall on Solstices and Equinoxes.. which is kind of astrologically related... but I've never read about the astrology behind the other Sabbats. Is it the position of one of the planets that determines this or.. ? I think it makes more sense to do it that way then by the calendar so I'm interested to know :)

Mari, correct me if I'm wrong in this... (I'm still learning :))

It is commonly refered to as a "Cross quarter day". Basically, the holiday is celebrated on the exact middle between the solstice and equinox. For example, August 7 is the exact center between summer solstice and fall equinox. And because the solstices and equinoxes change from year to year, so do the cross quarter days.

Does this make sense?

(did I do good?) :D

Ok that makes sense, means I'll have to do some math though :)

Thanks for the prompt response.

I go by the calendar although astrologically makes more sense.
I bigtime suck at Math!!!
The equinoxes and solstices I can usually find the astrological info, but not usually for the Major Sabbats.
Thanks for figuring it out for me :D !

I get some corn and place it on the altar, and i burn oragne and red candles. I have a ritual prep of a bath, then a walk thro the forest or a feild. Then I goto my altar and do a devotion, then I clease some holy water, and I bless the corn. I then invoke Cerridwen, as She is a Harvest Goddess, and say a make shift Charge of The Autumn Goddess. I then invoke Helios, and do a 'lil play thing with Him ginving his power to the crops, then I extingish the red candle and thank him. Then I would have a lil dinner with friends and then bury the corn at midnight. Hope i helped!
