It might be that you're too restless for just sitting, quiet meditation. You might try something like dance or music (playing it or singing ect.) meditation, and work your way back down to the quiet kind.

Ritual. I know everyone says it, but if you begin to do something all the time, then you will automatically fall into your "altered" state of conciousness and you will find concentrating much easier.

For instance: the smell of white sage and also nag champa incense instantly ground me and I am able to be calm and meditate or just feel and sleep better.

I wouldn't expect to instantly get all the way back up to the level you were before you got out of practice. It might take a few sessions. Ease yourself back into a regular practice (3 times a week, daily, whatever suits your schedule). I highly recommend mantra chanting if you're having trouble focusing. It gives your mind and your mouth something to do so your mind can wander. Try "Om" or the name of your favorite deity. There are also several sites out there with other ones you can try. Just search under "mantra" on Google.

Whenever I loose focus I take it back to the basics. I have found the best way to regain my foucus is to do a very simple candle meditation. Light a candle on your meditation altar and foucus on the flame, close your eyes and picture it in your minds eye. If you have trouble holding the image or focusing then open your eyes again and try to concentrate on the flame. Something simple like this can be a very easy way to get back in the swing of things. Good Luck. :colorful:

I've tried listening to relaxing music, close your eyes, and try to focus on the instruments. Pick ONE instrument and try to follow it for the whole song. Classical music is nice because there's so many things going on. And you really have forcus. But you could always start off with something "easier" like the drums or the guitar in a rock song.

the best thing for me to do was to meditate every night. Once I got into the practice, it became easier to focus. it takes time to get all of the mental crap outta your head. just keep up on a regular schedule. your body will get back to it.
