Normally, I wouldn't mind being in the hospital for two weeks, because I am used to it be now, but the garbage they are trying to put me in there for....
I am going to a mental health advocate tomorrow, who is also a lawyer, because of what they are saying.
The want me to spend two weeks in a tertairy care hospital because of my beliefs. A shrink told me that I need help and 'a good amount of down time with a preist'.... I am not going to let them do this to me, not like this, not now....
I am getting better, and with that, I am more involved in my practices, and now they are going to try and commit me for it.... I want to scream!!!!!

I wish I could be shocked, but my family's been trying to do the same to me for ages. Keep fighting! You have rights!

They're trying to admit you because they think your religious beliefs qualify you as crazy? What are the laws like where you live?

I don't blame you for that. You could sue the shrink, if you really want to. I've never had anything like that happen to me, and I hope it never does. Just refuse, or say you want a second opinion and go to someone else instead.

WOW! I dont know what to say. there has to be something that can be done. I would definately talk to the lawyer. I dont know about the laws where you are but here, um, I dont think they can do that. It's a type of discrimination based on your religious beliefs and her in Colorado that's illegal. If I"m wrong, somebody please correct me, but it's DEFINITELY not right. I wish you alot of luck with this. Please keep us updated. I'm really interested to find out what happens.

Blessed Be.

The biggest problem is that, when it comes to pushing for commitment, the shrink and family will NOT quote religion as the causative factor. They'll have another contrived excuse; and then, when it's protested that such a commitment goes against human rights because of their objections to paganism, you'll end up looking paranoid for saying it. Still, fight!

You don't have to put up with this! This IS against the Canadian Bill of Rights. I'm still on the outside, aren't I? Fight, fight, FIGHT!!!

Grrrr... This is why I don't trust or talk to shrinks. Just give the call and we'll have an MW brigade march up there to rescue you! Or me, at least.
Although, come to think of it, that might not help your case other than making you look sane by comparison. :hugz:

I can't imagine the absolute horror this situation must be instilling in you...fight this with all that you can.

Best wishes...good luck...I wish I could give more practical advice. And *do* talk to Boogins...she's one smart lady.

Same here, "ther-rape-ists" make me VERY nervous. (Sorry, watched Girl, Interupted last night)

Id personally find a new therapist or completely back out of the situation. If the guy tells you "You HAVE to go" then tell him he'll have to come and forcibly remove you from your house. Thats basically what I told a therapist who wanted to send me for "Mental and psychatric treatement for a short period of time". But as the others said, fight this any way you can, its not right at ALL.

Fires of Pheonix, where are you? What's happening? I know you're in BC, and I'm in Alberta, but the Canadian Bill of Rights is the Canadian Bill of Rights, and I can help.

Believe me, DS, it's all too real. I am 42 and have been fighting this same situation since I moved out at nineteen. But again I say, I'm still on the outside. They've never been successful... I can help.

If you are an adult.. dont allow people like that into your life, even if it is family!

Boogins

Believe me, Lady Trinity, that's a lot harder to do than it sounds. I cut off my parents and brothers 2 1/2 yeards ago, and in that time I have been pursued by lawyers, cops (yes, cops!) and health care professionals; I've had them sit across the street in their cars; show up on my property; fake health emergencies... you name it. You have to keep fighting. And I will. When I have the cash to get them back legally, their bloody heads are going to spin.

I am 42, an acute rapid-cycling manic-depressive with an IQ of 192. I can play several instruments, paint well enough to look like a photograph, and I write well enough for publishers and production companies to fight over it. I'm an adult and I can do anything.

More importantly than that, I have friends. Fires, this is what you need to do now: examine your own life, and get ready to demonstrate that you have the right to live on your own without their interference. Don't let this be about religion. Do you have a job, a boyfriend? How did you do in school? Talk to your friends, and ask if they will speak for you. And find a psychiatrist of your own, who will speak for you! This is the first person you mention their prejudices to. A lawyer who can attest to your rights under the charter is good too.

Don't give up. Never, never give up! You're a human being and you have the right to be the person you are!

I'm with Boog on this one for sure. There are PLENTY of REALLY bad (and screwed up) people out there to occupy the nosiest, greediest, most controlling no-goodniks in all the dimensions of the universe. Stand up for yourself, and show them you are a good and worthy person....

You said you were getting better over something, maybe they think that something was caused by your beliefs. You have to tell them it's two separate things!

Boogins

One thing that has to be addressed here is that the laws of both the US and Canada, and probably most of the rest of the world, dealing with those with "mental health issues" are designed primarily to protect the public at large, not to protect the rights of the person so identified. The moment you are identified to the authorities as a person who might suffer one of these disorders, your rights as a human being are immediately in question.

That is why it's necessary to prove yourself as competent. This can be done without a lawyer. And if you need a shrink to support you, go to social services. No, it's not fun. But it sure beats the mental hospital.

Charmed, these people already know these things are separate. They don't care.

This is very scary. Don't know anything I can do for you in the mundane world, but hugs and energy sent your way. You're not alone, Fires.

 Fight for your rights--ask for another opinion, and get a lawyer ASAP. That is RIDICULOUS. I would laugh @ the sheer stupidity of it, if your freedom and your sanity wasn't on the line. Do you have any friends and family who can help you through this? What about possible witnesses who would be willing to step forward on your behalf? Do everything you can to cover your own butt...make THEM look foolish (not that they haven't done a fine job of it already). Sheesh! And pray to your patron deities for guidance. Hugs to you :huddle: Love and light to you as well :colorful:
