I've always been intrigued with clay but never had the guts to actually try and sculpt with it. I mostly work with other materials -beads, sewing, cross-stitching, candle making, etc. So I just couldn't resist.
I brainstormed a bit then finally just tossed all the plans out the window and just played around with it. I ended up making small incense holders.

I’ve got: a crystal ball made with glow in the dark clay for the ball and a mix of black, silver, pearl, and some translucent.
A cauldron made of the same mixture as the base. The triple moon symbol was a mix of translucent with pearl.
A silver and red rose.
And a rune incense holder. I decided to see if I could actually make the runes look well on this so I placed symbols on all four sides. The base/background is pearl (why is pearl so hard to condition?) and the symbols are silver & translucent to make it more of a grey.

They're all aprox 1 -1 1/2 inches in height. I was thinking of posting them up for auction. I'm still debating the price I'm thinking around $2.50

Whadya think?

Also, I need more ideas and to stretch out my clay shaping muscles. so if you can think up of something you'd like to see, let me know so I can try and see if I can make it!

Clay is a most excellent media, I used to do ceramics in college and plan on getting back into it. If you ever have the opportunity you should try taking a class. Handbuilding or wheel both are enjoyable. Besides you get to make really cool stuff. :colorful:

I'm looking into it for a summer class. I think I'd really enjoy it.
Thanks!

The roses are easier than you thought, eh? :D Awesome for first tries! I love the little cauldron! I'm jealous that you thought of a rune incense holder before I did, lol.

You KNOW I'm teasing and will fully support anything you do! At that price, you should sell many!

you're a doll!
I'm planning on posting these on AW this weekend. The roses are somethingI came up with in a baby shower. We were all given a little ball of play-doh as one of the games to play (you make a little play-doh baby and the moma to be choses the one she likes best) anyway after the game I was noodling aroud and *poof* I had a rose. I did those two on a lark didn't think people would like 'em.

Glad you like the rune incense holder. I was thinking of making some out of the clay but I don't know how durable they'd be.

I just compleated a candle dish/incense burner. A ring of roses decorate the rim. The largest rose is a stick incense burner.

After some prodding, I decided to post it up for auction.

Very pretty, Moondust! I hope your auction goes very well. I wouldn't make anything polymer that the cone incense goes into directly, I would do as you did, enhance something flame/fire resistant with your polymer creations. The rose as a stick incense holder is fine, as the ash that falls isn't hot and shouldn't burn the clay. (I've made a lot of those, and they do fine.)

Keep on Clayin'! :hehehehe:

Wow-- you're improving really fast! Should be a pro really soon. I'm jelous, since clay stuff is so cool, but don't think I have time for another craft. May just have to just keep my eyes peeled for auctions

Thank you all! And thanks for the tips DC. I thought about the whole cone/stick incense thing for a while before I decided to forrage ahead with it.

I'm surprised at how well I'm able to transpose what's in my mind on to clay. Now if only more images would get in my mind! :T

MoonDust, the burner/dish is beautiful!

I am so glad to be able to come here and see the support we have for each other:huddle: The person who got upset with me for wanting to learn to make soap has actually asked me not to come into her store. I got a very cutting e-mail from her today. I'm hurt but I'm not really sure why.

Someone else also ripped off my goddess design - I entertained the idea of a copyright lawsuit but she can't duplicate what I do. I did get my initial inspiration by looking at others' work, so more power to her.......

You know that I wish you all the best, and maybe we can even do another collaboration at some point :huddle:

Yes, we are a special group. I don't feel threatened at all by others doing polymer clay art. Why should I? My dragons are mine, and are a reflection of my inner self. If someone else does a dragon, it will be theirs. (Having said that, I did get a copyright on my dragons. It wasn't expensive, but did take about a year to finally get my paperwork finalized and have the documentation in hand, but now I have an official copyright on my babies!)

That person who asked you not to come into their store: they are small minded and depressed inside. Don't worry about them again, and block their emails. Your time and effort should not be wasted on pettiness. Maybe you feel hurt because you know you don't have that attitude and find it hard to fathom in others; that's what I would be feeling.

I would still love to take your idea the next step and have a teaming of your Goddesses and my Dragons. We really need to talk about that. :huddle:

Love ya, GF!

YES YES YES!! That's exactly what I've been telling her. Don't let bullies get to you! And there are plenty of others who will help you even if she won't :hehehehe: And even with that, following the exact same recipe.. each will make their own.. it won't be exactly the same still. That person is just a shallow individual who will get theirs eventually :hehehehe:

{{{Ravensnest}}} And you were so awesome about helping, you even shared recipes! I am so pleased that my first batch came out similar to your beautiful soap, but only because that means I did it right. You are 100% correct - yours is yours and mine is mine. And PeleRising also helped, she was my cheerleader. And she makes soaps too - incredible soaps, I might add. It is interesting that she did this to someone else who started a business - and shortly after that, her husband lost his job. But she doesn't see the bad karma.

Yes, we are. And isn't their power in numbers by collective energy? I believe that by nurturing each other, we all benefit. Congrats on your copyright, btw! I've done an informal one but it is still legal. We do need to get together for several things - and just to build our friendship since we both live here.

Now that I've gone way off topic - MoonDust, you will be amazed at how your inner self comes out in your clay. You're already growing! LOL, your GoddessLights banner is still on my site, it's so pretty I can't stand to take it off :hugz:

Thank you Frey and thank you all for your support!
Someone dared to kick you out? how is it that I haven't heard of this? no matter they're sad little people if they can not see your gifts.
As for the person who took the idea of your Goddesses away.. you're right she could never duplicate your work. We can all see that a part of you is put into each and every one of your girls. It's one of the reasons I'm such a fan. There hasn't been one person who hasn't seen them sitting around me that hasn't made a coment on how beautiful they are. And I'm sure it's because they can see what I see... heart.
DC your dragons are light and whimsical (I know I spelled that wrong) and happy just like you.

Raven's right even if we all followed the exact same recipe the outcome would be different for each of them.

I really do apreciate the support I've gotten from you all. Thanks to you all I've explored my crafts much further than I'd ever thought I would.
