I'm sorry if this is the wrong place, but I'm not sure where else it would go.
I saw a symbol a few days ago and I'm curious as to what it is. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures, but since I don't know what it's called, I can't really search for it. ;) The symbol, from what I recall, is two three-pronged "Y"-looking things. The two "Y"s are then overlapped with each other by one of their end prongs. (The left one with the right and the right one with the left, of course.)
Sorry if that was a confusing description, but it was the best Klucky could do. So what is it?

Do you mean like this?
What was the context of the symbol? Was it a piece of jewelry or a piece of art? Do you know what culture it might have come from?
(I swear I attached this silly thing....)

**grins at Feathers** I know. I didn't see it either the first time. MW doesn't seem to like .bmp files today. So I changed it to a .gif.
Klucky ~ Either way, it looks like a rune of some kind. **goes off rune-hunting**

Would it be two of the rune called madr?

Damn.... Leave it to early societies to utilize the same rune symbols and give them different meanings.

I don't blame it. . . ;) I don't like .bmp files, either. They're huge, and not for any good reason that I can determine. Might as well use .psd if you want a really huge file size, you know?
That's kinda digressing, though. **Hushes up and listens to the conversation**

Hmmm...that's interesting. But why was it doubled up like that? Does that show meaning? (Sorry, I was never much for runes. I can't keep them straight. ;) )

Shhhhhh! Be vewy, vewy quiet. I'm huntin' WUNES! huhuhuhuhuhuhuhuhuh.
Algiz seems to be the most common result. (http://www.badalijewelry.com/runepend.htm)
Right now, I'm looking for "rune necklace."

Hrmmmmmm. "Hagalaz is hail. She connects this with the Norn Urd and sees it as
disruptive influences arising from the past, often unlearned lessons
even from previous incarnations. There are the correspondences with
the underworld, the goddess Hella, the unconscious, Gullveig,
witchcraft in the dark sense, and also the younger futhark form of
the rune, looking like two Algiz runes, used as protection from bad
weather." (http://www.geocities.com/solarguard/pagan/divination/runes/freya.html)

Thank you so much for all of your help so far! :hugz: I really appreciate it.
The thing that really has me curious is who was wearing it. It was my English teacher. You know, the one who wanted to suspend me? She seems to wear it daily. I just find this very interesting...

I really don't know for sure if Algiz is it. The rune Algiz is supposed to represent the antlers of an elk, so in one sense, it would make sense to see two of them, because elk have two antlers. But it also *doesn't* make sense, because I've yet to see the symbol exactly the way you described it. So, it's either something I haven't found yet to corroborate that it *is* Algiz, or it's not Algiz and just looks like it, *or* the artist goofed when s/he made it in the first place (which has been known to happen).

Huh. If she knows what it means, she's wearing it for protection's sake.

**puzzled** I clicked "Quick Reply" (I'm positive of this because I was paying attention to see what would happen because I think it did this to me before) and I got a Reply With Quote window, instead. How odd.
Anyway, **hugs Klucky back and says hi to Xander (cute about the chicken feet)** Sorry. I get a little carried away when I'm in research mode. Kind of forgot the niceties of conversation for a moment.
Klucky, could you describe the pendant and necklace? Was it a silver metal pendant, a gold pendant, an enamel pendant, a clay pendant, or was it just the symbol itself hanging from a cord/necklace? Like, was there no background to it, or was it pressed into some material that kind of resembled a stone?

It was a gold chain necklace. The symbol was gold as well. It seemed to be metal or metal-looking. It was a short chain, just below her neck. The symbol itself was just the symbol. No backing or other designs, just the chain attaching to the symbol on either side.
Does that help?

Yes and no. It will help if I go searching for "gold rune pendant" but it doesn't narrow it down as much as "gold cloisonné rune pendant with topaz and ruby" would. (Not that anyone *should* wear topaz and ruby together, especially not with something made of enamel. ;) )
I found something called spiegelrunen, or mirror-runes. I'm hunting to see what they are. (Unfortunately, my dad's computer is an uncooperative P.O.S. so I'm not overly optimistic.)

I'm not sure what it means but symbols.com (http://www.symbols.com) is a great reference. Although I did a quick search and couldn't find it...
