I was just curious to see what you think. I used to be a very preppy dresser and now i am just 3/4ths preppy (lol). I am not talking about the people on the American Eagle magazine, but that was always the style i was always going for. I used to be a "prep" until about 7th grade when i found out who my real friends are. Well anyway, i have new friends now and they don't exactly dress goth, but they have that edgy style that could almost be considered semi- goth w/out the bug baggy clothes (clothes what fit..no offense to anyone). I was thinking about going for that edgy style and i think i have always wanted to be a little different from others , but nothing drastic. I guess i never really made choices for myself because i have always wore what my friends wore because that was the "in" thing. Now it's different and i was curious if anyone was ever in a similar position where you want to dress edgy but were still concerned about the shock value of others? Any thoughts/opinions...???

Maybe you should consider wearing what you *like* rather than what others like.

Have a look around at lots of diffeerent clothes and decide what actually appeals to you...try things on...what makes you smile when you look in tthe mirror?...not what your friends like, not what magazines tell you to wear...and then, once you know what appeals to you, and makes you feel good when wearing it...

Hey presto! you have your own style...and that will last you a lifetime!

and don't be afraid to have fun with clothes...dressing up should be fun. :)

so you used to dress preppy cause your friends were preppy... now you have goth/edgy friends and you're considering going goth/edgy-style...
and you used to wear what your friends wore because it was the "in thing"... but now it's different?

Ask yourself a couple of questions - what makes you look good? What clothing makes you feel good, and makes you look like you think you are?

Don't wear anything just because others wear it.

I've been in that position...most of my friends are not really preppy so much but are casual preps. And I've always wanted to go goth, dye my hair black and highlight blue and have a spiked bracelet. Needless to say, the parentals did not agree and have refused to buy "scary" pants and "morbid" shirts. And shock values of others? Me, honor roll, top of the class student? Randomly going goth? *okay well not really goth, obviously* I cannot tell you how many looks I got from my classmates that first time I walked into school wear a shirt with The Used or whatever. Not to mention that my whole entire school is preppy...

I would say wear what you want. I wear more "edgy" clothing but right now am in the I-don't-care-how-i-look mode so it's kind of grundgy...If you want to kind of slowly switch into the edgy mesh the two looks together. It can be done!

And now that I'm done babbling...
Peace.

I'm with Morrigen. Dress what you want, it doesn't matter what other people think. Dress to your body style and what makes you feel good and what you like. If somebody decides they don't like you because of what you wear, they're not worth your time and energy anyway.
