Ok guys...I'm getting kind of anxious...so I thought I'd post a little something to read over and get us started :). Next, I'll begin our first lesson by posting Correspondences. :woot:

The following italicized information was taken from our own Yasmine Galenorns book “Embracing The Moon”, A Witch’s Guide to Ritual Spellcraft and Shadow Work. An excellent book if you don’t already have it :). I would highly recommend it for any beginners who want a step by step on how to get started.

What Magick Can Do For You:
"Magick can draw the right relationship to you, it can increase your prosperity, it can protect you on psychic and sometimes physical levels. Magick can aid in unlocking your creative abilities, open the door to your psychic strengths and gifts and guide you in understanding and attuning to the cycles of the Earth."

I would like to add on my own personal note, that magick can attune you to the energies around you and help you learn to tap in to those energies. It is my belief that everything is interconnected, and by learning how to tap into it, we can learn to manipulate the energies in order to facilitate certain outcomes in our lives.

What Magick Can’t Do For You:
"Magick can’t guarantee that you’re going to win the lottery (I can personally attest to this:lol: ). It’s not designed to gain control over people or make someone infatuated with your personal charms. Magick won’t take the place of a good lock on the door, it won’t do your job for you , or take the place of practice on the piano. Its not a quick fix or a jump-start into stardom. Magick isn’t about controlling the forces around you, it isn’t a substitute for calling the police about an abusive partner. You probably won’t learn to fly or levitate a table. Magick isn’t here to grant you three wishes no holds barred. If you expect it to do the work for you, you’re probably going to be disappointed."

The work of magick involves transformation, and this means a shift in your perception and the belief that anything is possible. You must also understand that if you don’t understand what you are doing, your spellwork will be ineffective and even possibly dangerous. Just like any other power source – from electricity to steam...Magick is a source of enormous power. But the better you understand it, the better it will work for you.
Scott Cunningham, in his book “Wicca, A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner” defined magic as “the projection of natural energies to produce needed effects”. He also defines three main sources of this energy – personal power, Earth power and divine power.
Personal power is the life force that sustains our earthly existences.
Earth power is that which resides within our planet and in its natural products.
Divine power is the life force, the source of universal power which created everything in existence.
We will be learning on how best to utilize these forces within and around us.

If you are a beginner, you must understand that simply lighting a candle and chanting some words over a flame does not mean you are actually casting a spell. Before beginning on the path of magick, you must first understand how it works. Everything around us is made up of energies. All of these energies are different and unique unto themselves. By learning about the different properties of different items, we learn how to best utilize these energies to assist us in our day to day lives. Misuse of those energies can disrupt the flow of your own life or someone elses. That’s why its so important to be patient and understand what you are doing before trying to cast any spell.

I would also like to stipulate that I am a strong believer in the Rule of Three, and in Personal Consent. I do not believe in doing magick to bend anothers will to my own. And I will not be teaching anything that will help another to do just that. I’ve attached the commonly know Witches Rune, and Wiccan Rede for those of you who may not yet have a copy of it.

The Witches' Rune

Darksome night and shining moon,
Hearken to the witches' rune.
East, then south, west then north,
Here come I to call thee forth.

Earth and water, air and fire,
Work ye unto my desire.
Wand and Pentacle and Sword
Hearken ye unto my word.

Cords and Censer, Scourge and Knife,
Waken all ye into life.
Powers of the Witches Blade,
Come ye as the charm is made.

Queen of Heaven, Queen of Hell,
Lend your aid unto the spell.
Horned Hunter of the Night,
Work my will by magic rite.

By all the power of land and sea,
As I do will, so mote it be.
By all the might of moon and sun,
Chant the spell and be it done.

The Wiccan Rede

Bide the Wiccan Rede ye must,
In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust;
Live ye must and let to live,
Fairly take and fairly give;
Form the Circle thrice about,
To keep unwelcome spirits out;
Bind fast the spell every time,
Let the words be spoke in rhyme.

Soft of eye and light of touch,
Speak ye little, listen much;
Deosil go by waxing moon,
Sing and dance the Witches' Rune;
Widdershins go by waning moon,
Chant ye then a baleful tune;
When the Lady's moon is new,
Kiss hand to her times two;
When the moon rides at peak,
Heart's desire then ye seek.

Heed the North wind's mighty gale,
Lock the door & trim the sail;
When the wind comes from the South,
Love will kiss them on the mouth;
When the wind blows from the West,
departed souls have no rest;
When the wind blows from the East,
Expect the new and set the feast.

Nine woods in the cauldron go,
Burn them quick, burn them slow;
Elder be the Lady's tree,
Burn it not or curs'd ye'll be;
When the wind begins to turn,
Soon Beltane fires will burn;
When the wheel has turned to Yule,
light the log, the Horned One rules.

Heed the flower, bush or tree
By the Lady blessed be'
When the rippling waters flow
cast a stone - the truth you'll know;
When ye have & hold a need,
Hearken not to others' greed;
With a fool no seasons spend,
Or be counted as his friend.

Merry meet and merry part
Bright the cheeks, warm the heart;
Mind the threefold law ye should,
Three times bad and three times good;
Whene'er misfortune is enow,
Wear the star upon your brow;
True in troth ever ye be
Lest thy love prove false to thee.

'Tis by the sun that life be won,
And by the moon that change be done;
If ye would clear the path to will,
Make certain the mind be still;
What good be tools without Inner Light?
What good be magic without wisdom-sight?
Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill -
An it harm none, do what ye will.
