View Full Version : Lesson 1

This first lesson is going to be on the different correspondences. In order to improve the strength of your spellwork, its good to know the energies that correspond with your type of spell. Such as moon phases, days of the week, time of day, how colors effect magick , etc...
True ritual spellwork takes careful planning, so I'll begin by posting the information that I currently have in my BOS, as well as other sources that you can check.
When you are done reviewing the information, your first assignment will be to pretend that you are going to do a spell....tell me what type of spell you are going to do. Plan it out..., the moon phase that best suits it, the day of the week, a time of day, the color of your candle, What elements you would have represented on your altar and why, etc....anything you can think of that will enhance the energy of your spell. If you already have a working knowledge of gemstones and oils, you can include them in your assignment spell. But as there are classes being taught on those subjects, I felt it best not to delve too much into those areas :) You don't have to give me a full ritual description, as that will come later :)...but just the basics...like a spell to quit smoking, a spell to find a job, a spell to bring love into my life, etc...
Moon and Moon magick
The moon is the earths only moon. It is believed to be the remains of a larger spatial body that exploded, sending the fragment we call Luna into out orbit. A very few ancient myths speak of a time before the moon, and a few scientist now believe that is possible that the Moon didnt emerge until Humans did.
The moon is 6,790 miles around, and circles the Earth in an elliptical orbit, in an average distance of 238,857 miles. Only one side of the Moon is seen because it rotates in exactly the same length of time it takes to revolve about the Earth. This combination of movement (called- captured rotation--think about it) means it always keep the same face toward the earth.
The phases of the moon are caused by the moons turning different portions of its hemisphere towards the earth. When the moon is between the Earth and the sun, its daylight side is turned away from the earth so it is unseen. This is the New Moon
As the moon continues its revolution around the Earth more and more of its surface becomes visible. This is called the waxing crescent phase. About a week after the new moon, half the moon is visible. This is called the first quarter phase. During the next week, more than 1/2 the moon is see; this is called the waxing gibbous phase. Finally about 2 weeks after the new moon, the moon and sun are on opposite sides of the earth. The side of the moon facing the sun is also facing the earth, and all the moons Illuminated sides are seen as a full moon. In the next two weeks the moon goes through the same phases but in reverse from a waning gibbous, to a third or last quarter to a waning crescent phase to new again. Some people always get confused as to the exact day of the full moon because it often looks full for 3 days. If you take notice you will see that within those three days there are differences in the moon. With the first day being not truly full and the second one being FULL and the third day being less full.
The Moon and women
Not all cultures ascribed the moon as female but it is a perfect analogy for today. The moon moves the tides of the oceans, the seas that gave birth to all life on our planet. (although it seems life evolved before the moon got here.) As humans are composed of mostly water, it affects us as well. It is said that all women who lives outside the city, all menstruate on the full or dark moon. It is also said the women who live together menstruate at the same time. Now I have not actually experimented with these facts so I dont know them to be true but you can experiment for yourself if you like, But I do know that most womens schedule is on a lunar cycle which is 28 days, or at least thats what my Gyn says..lol
The Moon and magick
The Moon has four phases, Wax, Full. Wane and Dark or new. The dark of the moon is surrounded with rumors and forbidding secrets. Tales are told of demons, devils and spells done for harm. But dark moon magick is NOT the dark side at work. It is transformative magick. It is the magick most fear because it makes us look within ourselves for the light that does not shine in the sky. We are afraid to look within, afraid we might find something we dont like. The Dark moon power is what you would want to draw upon to strengthen your will to quit smoking or quit any other bad habit. It is powerful but, because it depends a great deal on finding a balance within yourself it can frequently fail. The high degree of self-knowledge required to use it is the reason it is often not taught to beginners. Trying to use it without first knowing yourself very well could end up enhancing a trait in you that you dont like- one that could DAMAGE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEOPLE. AS IN ALL MAGICK, USE WITH CAUTION!
THE WAXING MOON: corresponds to the season of spring, birth, the colors green and red, the physical, the earth, growth and sensuality. It is the correct lunar phase to perform all types of magic for healing, attracting good luck and increasing things such as money, love, etc. Use calling magick (anything that calls something to you) during the waxing moon. 1st quarter to Full Moon
THE FULL MOON: corresponds to the season of summer, maturity, creation, the colors silver and white, the emotional and psychic. Magickal powers are said to be at their greatest when the light of the Full Moon illuminates the night. Spell work involving fertility, divinations and problem-solving magic are often performed during this lunar phase. The full moon is given different names, depending on when it appears. For example, the "Harvest moon" is the full moon that appears nearest to the Autumnal Equinox, occurring in late September or early October. Some other full moon names, by month, are:
January: Moon After Yule or Old Moon
February: Snow Moon, Hunger Moon or Wolf Moon
March: Sap Moon, Crow Moon or Lenten Moon
April: Grass Moon or Egg Moon
May: Milk Moon or Planting Moon
June: Rose Moon, Flower Moon or Strawberry Moon
July: Thunder Moon or Hay Moon
August: Grain Moon or Green Corn Moon
September: Fruit Moon or Harvest Moon
October: Harvest Moon or Hunter's Moon
November: Hunter's Moon, Frosty Moon or Beaver Moon
December: Moon Before Yule or Long Night Moon
THE WANING MOON: corresponds to the seasons of fall and winter, the colors gray and black, the spiritual, the underworld, death and transformation. It is the time for spell work that involves banishing, binding and eliminating things such as negativity, bad habits, disease, and obstacles. The waning phase is used magickally to get rid of things ( as the moon diminishes. I diminish this)

My spell is a money spell that has had great results for me in the past. Though i haven't done it for me I have done it for a guy that I know Ihave seen the results.
I start with a green votive sented with pine in green holder. ( I like using votives ) On the candle I inscibe the $ marking 3 times. While I'm doing it I say his name while visualizeing him recieving money adn paying off the bills. On my alter I have my normal black cloth. I burn vanilla incence * his fav. scent * . I also have him give me coins from his pocket adn a bill from his wallot. These are scattered out around the alter. I put the votive holder in a shallow bowl of water that I have cahrged with a moonstone on a full moon night. The water helps the money flow easier .
I do the ritual on a waxing moon and I try to make it as close to the begining of the waxing moon as possible. Also I do it on a thursday. And with all my spell work I do it at night. That iss the time where I can turn off my life adn concentrate on the task at hand.

Very good....but I'm going to make a suggestion here. Instead of trying to banish the heartache..(which can leave you feeling somewhat empty inside afterwards), how about a spell to bring you inner peace...By bringing something "to you" when your sad, it helps you feel less empty inside.
Also, to ease heartache, I would call upon strength and self healing. Fridays are a day for soft romantic lovey dovey magick  for lack of a better term. When getting over a heartache, you want to attack it with strength, passion, healing, inner peace, etc.
Does that make sense to everyone....anyone else have any ideas on this subject?

I would suggest using rose or lavendar oil and cloves.. Cloves help to expel negative energy which sometimes surrounds us during heartbreak..
just a thought..

Excellent suggestion. Altho, some students are not as advanced as others *nudge nudge* :)...so they'll only have the info I provide in these lessons to go by. Unless they're also taking herbs and oils (which I highly recommend) :hehehehe:

Ok, I am a newbie, so please forgive me if I ask silly questions. But I was just curious about a couple of things.
1. When you were discussing the correspondences for the elements, what does tattvic mean?
2. Why is the correspondence color for water green, and yet under color correspondeces, blue represnets water?
Sorry if these are very basic questions...I'm so new to all of this. I'm going to try and figure out my spell now.

1. When you were discussing the correspondences for the elements, what does tattvic mean?
Tantric refers to sex magick :)
2. Why is the correspondence color for water green, and yet under color correspondeces, blue represnets water?
Sorry if these are very basic questions...I'm so new to all of this. I'm going to try and figure out my spell now.
When working with the elements (or watchtowers or 4 quarters as they are also called), green represents the water, blue the air, and yellow the earth. But the wonderful thing about magick, is that it's whatever calls to you. If you feel that you're more comfortable with green being earth, blue water, and some other color air...then those colors will be your representations of those elements. But you must stick to your decision. When calling the elements to help you in your magick, they must know "who" you are calling....and will learn from your routine.
Candle magick/Color magick, is yet another form of magick...and when doing this type of magick, blue is water, green is earth, etc... When you are concentrating on the candle, its color has to represents your goal.
Magick is all about visualization.....so its only effective if the color helps you to visualize your objective. When you're looking at that color during your spell...it has to mean exactly what you need it to mean in your mind. This is why magick is done differently by so many. It only has the power you put in to it.
No questions are too basic....thats what these lessons are for :)

Ok, I'm familiar with the word tantric, just not tattivic.
Ok, I had a hard time with this since I've never done it before, but I'm going to give it a shot. I used to do a lot of writing, and haven't really been able to write anything lately, so I want to do a spell to overcome writer's block.
Day: Wednesday - I had trouble with this as Saturday said it was to "overcome blocks" but Wed seemed to deal more with writing, communication, etc.
Candle Colors: Yellow to break mental blocks (yellow was also the correspondence for Wed, so it seemed to fit) and blue for opening blocked communication, and also a correspondence to air.
Element - Air - I would have my athame on the alter. I'm thinking I might want to carve the symbol for air into my candles. I would also probably have some representation of butterflies, as they have been speaking to me lately...as they go through changes, transformation, and metamorphasis. I also have been drawn lately to the idea of having wings and flying. So anything that seemed airy and like it could take flight would seem right to me - maybe having some streamers blowing in an open window...anything that would seem to help give my ideas flight and get them off the ground and over the block. I'm also thinking that having some mistletoe available might be good too, as it kind of speaks to me as well.
Also, I'm curious - would it mean anything that I'm an Aquarian and Aquarius corresponds to Air?
Time: Dawn
Moon Phase: Waning - to eliminate obsticles
* I had a little trouble trying to figure out how much everything is supposed to correspond with each other. Fall/Winter corresponds with the waning moon, but spring corresponds with air. So that threw me a little. I think maybe I'm letting myself be a little too limited here by just going by the correspondences, so I am trying to just go with what feels right. Hope I am doing this right.

I would say that if you are going to call something to you, you should do the spell then with the waxing moon, and use the element of water for healing.
Would it be a really weird idea to suggest being in a bath when doing this spell? For the idea of the element of water soothing you and washing your heartache away?
The time would be twilight...and you could have the bathroom just lit with candles...white, for peace, and blue maybe for protection from heartache and calm?
Ok, don't mind me...I don't really know what I'm doing, just kind of playing around here.

Thats what these classes are for...to learn..and you're not going to just learn from me...but from each other.
Here is information on and introduction to Tattva. I have actually never worked with these before either. They're just in my BOS. If you're into chakra's and such, you may be interested in Tattvic associations. Tattva's are a way of directly "experiencing" the 5 alchemical elements.
http://www.magicalpath.net/writings/tattva.htm
Michie...excellent work. And very good suggestions about the heartache spell. The water could wash away the pain, and replenish her inner peace. Altho, some, when experiencing deep heartache, find power spells to be easier with drumming and dancing to raise energy. It kinds of "pushes" the heartache out....
helps relieve those frustrations too
Some times, sitting in a tub with candles will just have you sobbing in your bubbles after a few minutes. But I can't tell you how many showers I've taken to "wash away the stress of the day"....it's wonderful.
A bath might not be bad for your writers block to...washing away the blockage...free flowing like water..
Being an Aquarian might give you an edge with working with the element of air :)

Oooh, well then what about dancing in the rain? Pushing out the bad feelings and washing them away? Or listening to some native american drumming while taking a shower?
This is very interesting to me...thanks so much...I don't want to have anyone sobbing in their bubbles!
When writing a spell, is there something that you are supposed to write to say as well, or am I getting ahead of myself?
Sorry, I'm just eager to learn. :)

May 1st, 2004, 02:49 PM
spellcasting is lesson VIII
But the idea about dancing in the rain is wonderful. I think that would work beautifully. It would lift the spirits and wash away the negative. Its earths natural cleanser :)

You are going to get sick of me before too long...sorry.
So are you saying that I could just do my spell, and envision my writers block leaving, without actually saying anything? Ah, I have so much to learn.
When I thought of dancing in the rain, I thought of this card from my Osho Zen tarot deck.
Faeawyn
May 1st, 2004, 03:04 PM
I think the idea is that you don't actually cast any spells, until you have all the knowledge necessary to do so.
Writing and using spells is lesson VIII....just to ensure that we take our time and learn before doing. As I said in the other thread...magick is powerful stuff...like playing with electricity. You need to have a full understanding of what your doing, before doing anything :)
I'll never get sick of you posting

My spell:
To attain the most suited job for me at this time in my life
I've actually been meaning to do a spell just like this. I've been looking for a job to help me meet my current needs and lifestyle (I'm graduating from highschool in 2 months), so I figured this is a great time to start writing it up.
Moon phase: Waxing - to increase money
Element: Earth - for prosperity
Day: Sunday - for finding a job that enhances my happiness, prosperity, and will prehaps allow me to keep some of my individuality.
Time: Midday - for employment success in finding this new job.
Candle colors: Copper - for employment/money goals; Black - to repel any negativity I may have about finding this job.
Arinya
May 1st, 2004, 05:58 PM
I would do a spell to help with recovery and healing
For the time I would choose the waxing moon and a Sunday. However I can't decide between doing it in the morning or midday. I want to help with healing (morning) but midday also has the effects of courage, energy, strength, and protection which are all things that would help whoever I'lm helping. Perhaps I could find a comprimise and do it late morning early midday? Would this be a good thing or a bad thing to do or should I just settle on one or the other?
I would have the elements of Fire and Water represented for their healing powers. I would use a red candle to represent the fire elemental and it would also help to lend strength to my spell. To represent water I would use a blue candle which would offer protection to my spell. I would also include a green candle to add the properties of physical healing.
Since this would in my mind focus more on candle magic than elemental magic I used the candle correspondence colors to match the elements, (i.e. blue for water instead of green).
PS. I have to ask, I will be adding all of your lessons, Faeawyn, to my very small (but growing!) bos on my computer. Basically, I'm just doing the old permission check. I've had a bad experience I don't want to repeat so now I ALWAYS check.

Okay..i have never really did a spell the "right" way... corresponding with the phases and all so here it goes. (only did one spell..hehe)
"A spell to increase psychic ability"..:
I would now take a purple candle, light it, an inscribe it with a sign that resembles psychic ability (rune-like sign)
It will be on a thursday night at about 6:00 in the evening on a full moon.
The Words:
Oh day of night, increase my psychic ability for morning's light. Let me be, for third eye sees, increase my psychic ablilty for morning's light. (repeat many times)
(Did i do it right?)
Okay..i must confess since i am really new..i am not sure about the altar thing...i don't know what would represent psychic ablility and am i supposed to have a candle on all four points that represent earth, air, fire, water?(little unsure :()

Believe me, I know not to do anything before I'm ready...I guess I'm just a little anxious. As I've said, I'm a newbie, so I've done lots of reading, and I guess I'm excited about having this next stage to move on with my learning. I'll try to control myself. I am just a geek and I love to learn. :graduate:
I also printed out your lesson and read it that way - I also found that easier. I have already started a binder for it. I hope that is ok. :)

I would perform my Fertility spell on a Monday in May, at the Waxing Moon, at eight o'clock (which is twilight here in May). My spell would include a cup of water, seedling poppies and lillies for earth and water, and pink, red, and silver candles.

I like your spell. Writing your own spell is a wonderful way to enhance its effectiveness. However :)....I think the spell would best be performed on a Monday, as that is the day that rules clairvoyance, instincts and the subconscious...which would help with psychic abilities. I would also recommend doing it later at night, as the later hours are best for divination and psychic ability. Now these are not concrete....and I must confess, I don't necessarily wait for a certain day when I want to cast a spell. These are just known factors that are said to increase the spells energy :). The purple color is great...you may also want to use a white candle to tune in to your higher self, or silver for clairvoyance and intuition. These are all options available to you to increase your spells power.
I can't wait to see what you do in the spell writing lessons :)

If healing someone else, I would go with morning to bring forth healing energy....midday for those who have a struggle ahead of them and need energy to help them fight. You could also begin your spell in the morning...and allow your candle to burn until midday :)
Yes, you can add it to your BOS :)

I would just like to add....that when doing candle magick, I prefer to use a blue candle for healing. Just wanted to point out that every teaching is different. But to me, blue just represents healing energy more than green. If you choose to work with something different than I've provided....please tell me why you made the choice you did.

You have a very good working knowledge of what everything represents....but I would be careful not to confuse things by making it too complex. You'll end up with so many things on your altar, your energies will be flying all over the place  Keep it simple, but keep your energies directed towards your goal. For instance, pick one tarot card that to you represents your goal....like "The World", and a couple of gemstones...1 for money, one to enhance your power. Great job tho...I can tell you've been reading up on this :)

Ok , since I am kind of an empathetic person and I am very sensitive to different types of energy , and am susceptible to sometimes absorbing negative energy , my spell would be to banish or neutralize negative energy from myself and or my surroundings , I havent really advanced beyond " mind magick" and manipulation of whatever energy I have available so I have little experience with tools , tangible ones at least:) but Ill try. I would perform the spell or ritual on a Saturday , during the evening , with a black candle lit sitting near a bowl of rain water , during the waning moon and I would use meditative visualisation while concentrating on the reflection of the candle in the rain water , hope that doesnt sound too strange or off base , if there is something you would change please , share with me your thoughts:)

well, its a vengeance spell to rob an enemy of his sex drive/masculinity. before anyone else says "using magic to do harm goes against the rede", let me say, im not wiccan, i dont follow the rede, and this is a vengeance spell i.e. to be used against someone who has already wronged me or mine (as you will see if you read this, the association with thor, a protector of humans, means that the spell relies on there being grounds for retribution, otherwise the spell wouldnt work and could possibly backfire). please, if you are wiccan and you do believe that magic should not be used to cause harm, realise that people who believe otherwise have every right to do what they wish. anyway, when it boils down to it, i have no intentions at all of performing this spell, i merely wrote it to fulfill the specifications of the assignment, which said nothing of morality. so i ask you to judge this spell on its merits as being in accordance with the information given to the class, rather than its morals, which could easily be deemed questionable.
the main focus is the sex drive, but the spell would also effect the masculinity of the person as a whole. i would get a red candle and inscribe the image of a phallus on it, point facing upwards (that way, the phallus gets shorter as the candle burns out) and with the persons name written on the bottom of the candle. if i had a piece of garnet to waste, then i would carve a small hole in the bottom of the candle and keep the piece of garnet in there. then, i would try and aim for a tuesday that a full moon fell on and i would start the spell then, just by lighting the candle and burning it for a while outside underneath the moon at midnight.
then, the next thursday, moon waning, i would burn the candle again, a little earlier in the night. i would repeat this on the following sunday, then tuesday, then thursday etc always a little bit earlier in the evening, until the new moon rolled around and the moon was just about to start waxing. by this point, i would hope that the candle would be almost burnt down and on the last night before the new moon, at sunset, i would burn the candle out, take the garnet and smash it with a hammer.
the different elements of the spell;
the phallus is the symbol of male power and the sex drive and is representative of all things masculine, so i would use that and its shortening to show the reduction in all these qualities.
the persons name, obviously, to aim the spell at one person in particular.
tuesday, tyr's day, is used because it is a male day. also, tyr's symbol is the spear (links with the phallus) and hes also a god of war. burning the candle on this day reduces these aspects. also, has energies for power over enemies and revenge.
thursday, thor's day, thor being the protector of humans against evil. i can see how this could be problematic, but if the spell was done in the spirit of righteous retribution then this aspect of thor becomes quite useful, imo. thursday also has energies for male fertility and desires. burning the candle at this time reduces these. also, thors hammer links with the hammer used to destroy the garnet, and thors main enemy is a serpent, which links with the phallus, male potency etc.
sunday, the most male day. the sun is the symbol of the male as the moon is the symbol of the female. also has energies of prosperity. burning the candle reduces these.
red candle, the burning of the candle is the most central idea to the spell, that the candle becomes physically smaller by the burning so it reduces the male energies as it burns. candles and red are also symbols of fire and passion, key elements in this spell.
moon phase, the whole spell takes place during one period of the waning moon, as this also ties in the reduction of masculinity and sex drive, as the moon diminishes so shall the masculine and sexual aspects of the target. the spell starts on a full moon because this is typically linked with workings of magic and it is good to start the spell when the moon (and the target) are at full potency, and to end it when they are least.
time of day the spell starts at midnight as this is typically associated with magic and is also a time of transition (this spell is designed to cause massive changes in the target). the timing gets earlier so that on the last day of the spell, it can be performed at sunset, another time of change, from light to dark. sunset is also a romantic/sexual time, as is all nighttime. so by completing the spell at sunset, the male day gives way to the female night (links in with sun and moon) and represents the loss of masculinity in the target.
garnet garnet to me represents a very primal sexuality, the very thing that the spell aims to rob from the target. the destruction of the garnet on the last day represents the destruction of the masculinity in the target.
btw faeawyn, if you would prefer that i construct something more positive, then i will :).

Not bad...but we need to make a few corrections :) I"ve already given one example where instead of pushing out heartache, we could instead, bring in peace. But lets say we did want to banish someone from ones heart....
I think instead I would pick:
Friday - for peace and affairs of the heart.
color - I might use a pink candle signifying affairs of the heart, and a red candle for strength and passion to overcome the heartache.
moon phase - definitely waning...as you are pushing something away...banishing the heartache and negativity. Waxing is for brining something towards you :)
Element - water is great...washes away the pain.

To make a spell to help strengthen my weak ankles (Sprained the darned right one yesterday heh)
I would do this spell during the waxing moon on a Sunday between morning and midday; I would light a red and a green candle, both in gold or brass candleholders for strength, and focus on the flames of both, combining in my mind the strength and the healing from each into a single light, and visualize the energies of that light shining in my ankles.

Okay I would do a spell to bring a good memory.
Waxing Moon - to bring a good memory.
I would do it on Wednesday, on the hour of Mercury, for intellectual pursuits or Sunday for success. I would use three candles: blue - wisdom, yellow - intellect, violet- success. I would empower an emerald stone for mental abilities and burn ginger for success. I could anoint the candles with either oragne essential oil (to me it symbolizes wisdom) or lemon for mental clarity. I could put on my altar lily of the valley or honeysuckle for mental powers. to enhance the spell I could eat an orange.

I would do a spell for healing- to rid myself of the pain of my fibromyalgia...
I would do this under a waning moon.
I have the option to do this on any of these days:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday.
Monday is acceptable because it has aspects for healing.
Wednesday is the same.
Thursday has the aspect of health.
Saturday for Destroying disease.
Sunday is also for health.
The candles I would use would be white (to bring me peace), Purple (for empowerment), Green (for physical healing).
I could use the elements of water or fire for healing, but since I am a leo and it is a fire sign, I think I would have better results using elements of fire, which would be more powerful for me (right?).
The time of day would be noon. I would include the partaking of garlic for the healing power, and their association with the element fire.

Very good. But perhaps waxing would be better, as you are bringing healing energy to you. And I really like your choice of midday as it relates to your fire sign :)
Perhaps, instead of a purple candle, I might substitute a red one...as it relates to your sign as well, and its for strength, driving force, fast action. It may add more power to your spell.
But then again...this is all about what it means to you. If you feel purple would represent what you need to aide in your healing...then purple is the best possible choice :)

Color of candle: Black/Blue (One of each or layered if I have the stuff to make one... herm... bisected across the diameter)
Elements: Fire for the Stregnth and protection aspects. Water, for the passive and heavy qualities. Also I'm a cancer with 7 planets in Scorpio... so I have a lot of influence from both of those personally. I'd represent with Red candle for Fire and ... bowl of water I guess... eventually I'll be sculpting "elementals".
Additional... Sage... lots'a sage

I would do a spell for my boyfriend to bring him a new job. He's really taking an emotional beating at his job now and will probably be fired unjustly, so there would be a lot of different elements to this spell.
-I would put down a purple altar cloth and burn some dragon's blood incense just to give it some power and oomph.
-I would burn three candles:
-Orange for courage and justice at his job now
-Yellow for good communication during future interviews
-Green for financial success during and after his quest for employment (he's afraid he won't find a job that pays what he gets now)
-I would do this spell on a Saturday to help him overcome obstacles, have a quick and clean ending at his current job without a lot of harassment, and because he is a Capricorn and, hence, ruled by Saturn
-I would perform the spell at noon, again, just for some justice and courage because he's scared of what will happen if he gets fired
-I would do this any time between the first quarter and the full moon, possibly more than once during that time period
-I might put a picture of him on the altar, but as I live in his house, I see that as optional

Use whatever energies are available to you, put as much of your own energy into it...and it'll be fine. Working with moon phases and days and such assist you and lend you power...but they're not what create the magick. The magick is already within you :)

Moon Phase - Waxing, as it's the best time to call things to you.
Time of Day- Morning. If it's good for success in business, then I think that works for sucess in school aswell. Also it just feels like a morning spell to me *shrug*
Day- Tuesday, I think it was said to be a good day for spells to do with education.
Colour of Candle- Yellow, for the properties to accelerate learning, for logical imagination and for memory.
Elements Represented- Earth, for prosperity and also Air, for intelligence.

hi tetemazu :)
I just emailed you back. Everything looks good...but I would go with the waxing moon instead. Waxing is for calling something to you or increasing something. Like luck and money :)
New moon magick is something all together different.
Also, I explained that the bull/strength is not actually an element. The elements are earth, air, fire and water. But if the bull represents your God, and that means strength to you, then its fine. But you just need to be clear on what it represents :)
Phi
May 26th, 2004, 06:58 AM
Tantric refers to sex magick :)
Hi! I've been away from MW for a few weeks, but came in this am to see what's up, and found your classes highly intriguing. Thanks for this particular answer!
I have been studying the Chinese methods for the directions and colors, for luck and protection and so forth. So when I read the directions and colors I got rather confused.
In the Chinese wisdom, North is water, and black/dark blue.
I thought perhaps since I am not Chinese, maybe it might be better to change to more European/Brittish/Celtic ways. as that is my ancestry. Then I started thinking that most of our increase in water comes from the melting of ice in the north polar region, so maybe the Chinese ancients had something. Then I thought that the Europeans had the largest body of water to the West, knowing Scandinavian lands were to the North , so that might be why they chose West/water correlation. (I sometimes overanalyxe things a bit  )
Many persons think these considerations do not really matter, and tthat magic only has the power of the mind/spirit, but Earth is a powerful entity to call upon, so perhaps it really
does make a difference?
Calling upon water energy from the West if you live on the Eastern seaboard might give less energy than from the East you see? What do you think?
(Of course if you live in Florida, you get either Atlantic or Gulf energy. Let's see, Atlantic Ocean/Gulf of Mexico...just how much energy do I want??? :weirdsmil )
I'd like to try these lessons, but feel so confused by changing colors and directions that I fear my energies will become confused too, and maybe backfire...
:awwman: Any help for my confusion is appreciated...and thanks for the answer referred to above, because it gave me the courage to ask my own rambling questions.. :o
Phi
May 26th, 2004, 07:22 AM
When I spoke of Earth as a powerful entity to call upon, I meant Earth in the sense of the whole planet and it's atmosphere and satellite, and including the whole of our world. Just a note to avoid confusion with the "earth" as meaning that from which plants grow and "Earth" as our whole world.:)

If the Chinese version feels more comfortable to you, then I think thats what you should use. Some people assign different directions and colors to elemental magick because of their geographic location. I've often thought that perhaps East should be water for me because I live on the east coast of Florida, and the ocean is east. But then I remember the wonderful breezes that blow from the east and keep us cooler.....so air works as my east now :). Don't allow yourself to get bogged down by what you've read or heard. It's your intent that matters....and if you intend to call the element of water from the North, then they'll hear you.. :) It's the energy you manifest when thinking of the power of water that they feel. It's your belief that calls them to aid you.

Thanks, I feel better now. :)
I think I will try for better health/happiness for my sister.
I will purify myself with ritual bathing that I might better work.
I will shield myself from harm that she will be shielded from it also.
I will create an eight sided figure, calling upon East for new beginnings and green plants for herbal renewal. I will enter it from west/family and work toward east/healing.
Within it I will create a shape of five sides representing the cycles of reduction (of her illness) and creation (of her new wellness). At each point of the shape, I will add the appropriate element, keeping these in the appropriate direction.
Within the five-sided shape I will create a star shape with five points to allow me to control and send the energies properly. I will start with wood/healing on the five-sided shape and draw the star shape toward earth, then water, then fire, then metal, then back to wood/healing.
I will add her picture and some of the tokens she has given to me to the center.
I will light a red candle for strength for her heart, a green one for healing, and a purple one for strength for her mind/spirit. I will add copper to help her health-related financial problems and wood for healing.
As I call energy in I will utilize a convex mirror to concentrate this energy for her. (When I send it to her, I will utilize a concave one to multiply it.)
I will perform this on Thursday for help with the prosperity,
June(6 month:6 is lucky wealth number and North number)
3rd (is wood/ east/ health number)
when the moon is in Sagittarius, my sister's sunsign,
at beginning at 12 midnight on 2nd, (1 with 2 is "very easy, easy to succeed": number of 12 midnight: 2 alone means double prosperity)
and working until 12:20 when the moon is full and powerful for sending.
I know I added more than you asked for trying to get the Chinese way perfected,
but did I leave out anything you think I should add?
This will be my first ritual, (most times I just ask, as in a simple prayer.) :)

I have some spells that are actually written down in a book that I'd like some opinion on. I'll post then when I get home. One thing I notice is a lot of people talking about carving symbols into candles. I thought I would share what I sometimes do. If I have a candle, I like to carve in a rune sometimes and once it is carved in the candle, use glow in the dark puffy paint and fill in the carving with paint. Once the spell is complete, I leave the candle under a light until bedtime and once I turn off the light, the candle rune will glow on the candle as well, giving a final reminder of what I'd like to accomplish. And well, a glowing symbols just looks pretty neat too! :)

That sounds like it would be really cool....but my candles usually burn themselves all the way out. Isn't that stuff flamable? How do you handle that?

* Blink In! *
I know I'm a little late obviously, but better to be late than never to have arrived at all!
This spell would be to help me let go of mental barriers and to allow myself to Astral Project more easily.
Moon Phase: The New Moon. To destroy my mental barriers so that I can do more and grow more and benefit, etc. etc. etc. (I persoanlly feel that New Moon and the Wanning Moon are somewhat both times to banish... I haven't really made my "mind" up on it so to speak, but as I'm sure you know Fae people sometimes make their own correspondences to things! :) )
Day of the week: Friday (I've always thought of Friday as a "destructive" day so this is another correspondence of mine.)
Time of day: Night (This would be for the banishing negativity part, but my mental barriers are.... Hmmm.... I wonder if one would call them negative or neutral? Either way I think it still stands for banishing)
Candle color: Black (I know that on your list Faewyn it says Yellow is used to break mental blocks but as I've always thought of black as being destructive, in a way that can be used for positive and negative manners, and for banishing stuff in general I find this color to best suit me)
Element: Fire, more precisely the energy of fire. (Because of its destructive and banishing force I would use fire. However, I would most likely use the energy of fire and make sure to make it clear that I don't want a blaze. But in the likelyness that I were to actually do this spell I probably would not incorporate the element all)
Other: I would make a nice written rhyming part that I would memorize, recite after or as I do the spell, and I would use some clear mind magick in my head afterwards to make my intent and work with the energy clear. In fact I would probably take the energy and sit there doing mental mind magick and actually do the spell as oppose to sending off the energy. The mind is something to be careful with!
I'm going to move on to Lesson 2 right next! Your doing an awsome job!
Blessed Be....

I may be a bit too advanced for this class (not that I imagine you will shun me), but I do so love refresher courses and evaluating things again every so often, so here's my hypothetical spell. ;)
Note: I may go overboard on some of my correspondences in terms of what information you have provided or are wanting to accept, but it's only cause these are things I have delved into and are hard for me to ignore, not that I would. This is also a spell of mine I created awhile back, so I hope it's okay. If not I could always create an original spell.
Manifesting a Romantic Counterpart
Astrological and Timing Correspondences That Would Be Most Ideal: Waxing Moon, Friday, In the hour of Venus, When the Moon is in Venus, When Mars and Venus are not in retrograde, Dusk/Twilight (the time I associate with Water).
Supplies: Two pieces of pink felt, a bowl of pink rose petals (picked from your garden or bought and then picked. Will fill the poppet, each one charged with a different quality your ideal mate should posess), White Ribbon, Quill & Dove's Blood Ink, One piece of Parchment (to write down all the qualities you are looking for on before charging the petals, then placed inside the poppet), One pink taper candle inscribed with two interlocking gender symbols (yours and your ideal mate's as well as two interlocking hearts above the gender symbols), Bolline or Working knife (to inscribe the candles), Two small pieces of rose quartz (to be placed inside the poppet representing your heart and your mate's), Lavendar or rose oil, and incense consisting of Cinnamon (passion), Lavendar (love), Dried rose petals (love).
Other correspondences and requirements: Invoking the western quarter (which I associate with Water, and thus emotions and relationships), Invoking both Cupid and Aphrodite or Eros and Venus depending upon preferences.
I used a lot of parenthesis for explanation since the full spell is not posted. If it was it would become obvious what each supply or correspondence was for as it was brought up in the formula.

My spell... would be one for personal protection from negative people and drama.
I would choose the full moon representing wholeness.
I would use a white pillar candle with the pentagram painted on it with lavender oil.
I would probably recyte something like "let negative energy be gone" over and over and picking up the pace as I chant.
I would draw a spirit pentagram on the space infront of me in the air with my athame.
The end o.o....

My spell that I would choose to do would be a spell called "Kali's Book of Reincarnation" - a spell to look into your past lives.
Moon Phase - Waning or New Moon (dark)
Day - Saturday
Time of Day - Night (Midnight)
Candle Colors - Black or Indigo
Element - Fire
Herbs/Incense - Garlic / Nag Champa (my preferred ritual incense)
Clothing - For comfort, generally loose pants or a dress
Altar SetUp - My Kali Altar.
