No kidding, really.
So I came across a new Epona today, which is very exciting (for me) except I don't know where it is. The book I found it in says
Gefunded im Castell Augustae (Hǎrletz in Bulgarien). 3. Jahrhundert n. Chr Bukarest Museum
Ok so it was found in Hǎrletz, which is in Bulgaria, and is now in Bukarest Museum which is in Romania, and in roman times the fort was Castell Augustae which is so generic as to be almost worthless. 3rd century ce, ok, later than usual, fine. It helps if I just think of this as Dacia. My usual sources of geographical help (autoroute express, and google) don't know anything about Hǎrletz.
Can anyone sugest how to find where this place is? I know that plenty of places changed their spellings the last 50 years or so ....
Oh and its an important Epona because the top half shows the Thracian rider-hero and the lower half is an imperial-type Epona so this is pretty unusual.
The book was 'Junkelman, Marcus (1990) Die Reiter Roms, teil 1: Reise, Jagd, Triumph und Circusrenned (Mainz, Verlag Philipp von Zabern).
No, I don't speak German but I have a dictionary,and hope.
