My favs are the old standbys...lavender, sage, rosemary, & mint - spearmint, peppermint, apple mint, any kind of mint. :) You might want to try the mint in a pot, though. It has a tendency to take over your garden fast! Calendulas are great too! Beautiful flowers & you can eat the flowers & leaves in a salad. Also, the flower infusion makes a great face wash...very healing for your skin. What about something for the birds? Like some sunflowers? Great way to give thanks to the Mother.

I live in England any sunlight is good LOL make sure it gets sun in the day nd later on in the evening around 3:00 to be in the shade, for example close to your house to get the shade of the house later on in the day.
But it really depends on the herbs you want to grow as well.

Sounds great! I live in Arizona, so any shade is good! I will have to start it after monsoon season, which is the only rain we get, but it comes in storms every single day.
Thanks a bunch Socharis!
What about things like chamomile and mint and lavender? I'd like to have things that are good for you...and some stuff to put in tea...what things grow well together?

Grow your Mint in a pot cause otherwise they will destroy your plants as the roots grow really long and out of control style.

 Eep! That's not good at all! I think I'll bury the pot halfway and put a bunch of little stones around it to make it pretty when I plant it. That way there's not just a big pot sticking out of my garden... :)

I agree! That's why I want to start an herb garden. My mom and I already have a rather large flower garden in the back yard. Except our catnip plant has taken over a big spot in it...It's fun to grow things and then see how they turn out...
Tip: Grow catnip in a pot or something if you ever plan on growing it!

Hehe :D Yup! It runs the sprinklers for the grass, which is pointless in Arizona, as all grass dies unless it's being golfed on, for some reason...but come to think of it, my grass is actually pretty and green this year. And there are little hoses that run underground to the flower garden. It's so nifty!

Socharis, your garden sounds like it's coming along very nicely.
Catnip or any kind of mints will try to take over your garden. I had to take mine out because the neighbourhood cats were coming around & rolling all over it. They were crushing my other plants. It's now in a small pot.

For tea herbs I highly suggest what I have in my garden.
Bergamot & Chocolate mint are divine in teas.
(You can make your own 'earl grey' tea with bergamot and a plain orange pekoe teabag, just add a few leaves to hot water, let steep, then pour into a cup and add a normal teabag, let steep, then remove teabag & leaves, add sugar and milk or whatever, and there you go, absolutley excellent earl grey).
I love tea and am always trying to make up new tea recipies. Bergamot, Chocolate mint, & Spearmint makes a wonderful relaxing tea, it works for iced tea too. (Perfect for hot days, mint has that certain 'cooling' effect). Make it a bit stronger if you plan on iced tea.
It just takes a few leaves of each plant and some water (depending on how strong you want it), bring the water to a rolling boil, add the leaves and let them boil untill the water darkens enough to use, strain out the leaves and there is your tea, add about 1/2 - 1 cup of sugar per gallon, put the sugar in the bottom of the ice tea container, pour in hot liquid mix (tea) then add about the same amount of cold water, add ice cubes if desired, let sit in fridge till cooled. Remember ice tea mix needs to be extra strong because of all the cold water added at the end.

Perhaps, but it would have to be tall enough for her to not be able to stick her head over. Even if she doesn't dig, she may smell something of interest and decide to eat it.
Then again, I could make a little chickenwire barrier with a little chickenwire roof that I could just take off whenever I needed to do anything with the garden.

Hmm...I wonder if I made my dog a catnip toy if my cat would get jealous of her... I think I will go outside and pick some now so I can dry it out.
I need to check on my garden anyhow.
OH I'm so happy!! My garden is still getting all the carpenter bees that come every summer! They come to build little homes in the wood around my garden. I love the carpenter bees! I don't know why, they just make me so happy! Does anyone else get carpenter bees in their garden?

Ok I will. We have more deer and other fun critters than we have plants. The deer and rabbits enjoyed the salad we served them imensely by the way.

Eep, we don't have any wild animals in our garden...well, save for the birds...and the ants...and the bees...and the neighbor cats who go after the birds who go after the ants...

Yes, nature's cycles are so beautiful. That's the joys of having a garden...you get to watch this cycle up close.

I couldn't decide on an herb garden or a flower garden...I really was leaning toward the herb garden, and I was thinking of planting things that I can put in tea and stuff.

Go for a herb garden, theres nothing like growing your own herbs and then making them into teas or drying them etc, its very saticefying(sp)
