DARN DARN DARN!! I was thinking of getting my daughter into the girl scouts.. and I called them Friday and left a message, and they didn't call me back.. which I thought was rude.. anyhoo.. I saw THIS just now and checked it out.. only it's not available in my area... This looks like it would be PERFECT for SURE if they are in your area!!

I would love to get my boys involved in something like this, unfortunatley......not in my area....yet;)
I think I'm going to contact them and see what it takes to start a 'branch' up here.

Actually all the info to get started is on the web site. Me and a frienmd were going to start a local chapter, but someo one beat us too it. There are forms to fill out and you need a background check of course.

:elf: Would that count as stuffing religion down a kids throat? I'm not trying to make anyone mad, but that's like carting a kid to sunday school every week when they don't have the mind to choose. (Not that it doesn't look fun- I wish I had done something like that as a kid!) :hehehehe:

i don't think it''s stuffing religion down a child's throat. it can be seen rather as a learning situation. i don't think paganism is an opressive religion and therefore teaching it wouldn't be opressive. i'm not imposing, im just saying

I would count (and I know not all churches are like this) stuffing religion down a kids throat as telling a six year old that she was going to burn in hell if she didn't read her bible every day.............
True story, from when I would let my kids go to Sunday school with my neighbors little girl just for the fun of it, to get out of the house. (mine were 2 and 5 at the time)

I'm a former girl scout and I am looking forward to having some kind of spiral scouts thing going on as soon as I have gathered enough kids.
I don't think it is as much a religeous experience as an opportunity for pagan kids to get with other pagan kids where Yule and Ostera are as natural as x-mas and easter are in the mundane world.

That would be so wonderful!! My youngest sons teacher (last year) actually taught the calss about all the xmas season holidays....even Yule. She was wonderful!:D

JMHO but I tried the Spiral Scouts thing and it was a great experience for my child to learn about pagan subjects with other pagan children. They were considerate of all stages of the childs experience and taught them basic things,no shoving in anyway. I strongly urge that you research the group a few times before even taking your child there.
Its not hard to start your own clan...They also have a yahoo group for Spiral Scouts;)

i don't think sending your kids to such a thing would be any worse than something like a church youth group. as was said earlier, it gives them a place to interact with other pagan kids. besides, if they don't like it, you can let them quit. :)

that sounds so cool, I wish I was that young again, plus in my area there are maybe two pagans out of the thousand, it is still a highly christian dominated place. I mean there is like ONLY christian religeons here, the closest synagogue(sorry if its spelled wrong) is like at least a hundred miles away or more.

Oh I wish they had had this when my son was a kid. He was in Boy Scouts and it was a trail for me becasue my late husband was a leader and well so was I. Yeah me with all my weird pagan ideas. But my kids loved having me as their leader and I never taught anything that would conflict with their parents veiws. Still this by Sprial Scouts Org. would have been great.
