Does anyone know anything about this place? I've heard of Christian schools before, but I thought they were in addition to public schooling. Is this system like an actual honest schooling program? Does anyone have their child in one of these schools?

OMGs!!!
This looks like it would be amazing!!! I'll have to read it some more but I think it's a home-schooling based program, because it says it's available in all 50 states (figures it wouldn't be in Canada :()....

I often thought wondered why there is not a "pagan"wiccan" etc" type of school. Or even for that matter: Other religions have Sunday school, but there isn't anything set up for children that don't come out of different religious beliefs.
That is what prompted me to pursue a "spiralscouts"group in the fall. Then my children can spend time with other children being raised in simliar beliefs.
Don't get me wrong, I want them to expose themselves to whatever their tender hearts desire buddhism, taoism.catholicism, christianity, etc.... As long as they find what their path is meant to be, I will truly be happy.
I was thinking tonight as we celebrated, it would have been wonderful to have a harvest party for them. Games, activities, crafts, food, you name it. If we knew other families in our area, we could share celebrating with them as a group and give them a sense of community.
I did plan a whole day of activities for them, which I'll post in a thread of it's own.Otherwise I'll take you guys off topic:D:D
but it could have been a grand and memorable celebration if only we could have shared the beauty with friends.... oh well.... hopefully soon.:):):):)

Sorry, I got all lost in that post and didn't answer what I was going to answer...Getting late*wink*wink *yawn :):):)
Anyway, I went ot the site to check it out. It looks really cool. I was looking through the curriculum and it sounds awesome. Too much fun and learning all combined with pagan beliefs...... what more can you ask for?
I know Rae......to my knowledge we don't have anything like this in Canada yet either..... Maybe soon though. Positive thoughts....
Spiralscouts started US based and it has grown to international. There is always hope.... :):):):)

and it makes me more interested in homeschooling. My hubby has been wanting me to homeschool and I have been against it. But this would be a curriculum I would like to teach. I just don't have the discipline or patience to teach my own kids. Other peoples kids, sure! My own~*shiver* And wouldn't you know, my dh's biggest arguement for me homeschooling is that I am a certified Elem. Teacher!
Reanna, what are Spiralscouts? Like Girl/Boy Scouts with a Pagan twist? That sounds neat too, but I can't imagine they have anything like that in my town.

This is the first time I've seen this.
I can't homeschool my kids, I'm not cut out for it and I can admit it.
Christian schools are private schools, they are outside of the school districts and you must pay for them.
Because of the new Texas Charter school laws my community center is thinking of opening up a Pagan based school. I don't think they will do this homeschooling thing though. I think they want a physical presence. Unfortunately we will not be able to take advantage of it because I think you have to be in the school district that it is in.
On the other hand I have my daughter in a wonderful Montessori where there are kids of many beliefs and cultures. I would recommend them to anyone who can afford it or sets there mind to it.
It would be nice to put her in a Pagan school but there are just so many different ideas/types out there that I don't know if I could feel safe she wasn't soaking in some intolerance or ideas I would not find complimentary to our lifestyle.

Spiral scouts is exactly that and a bit more.
**Hopping up and down on my seat......
It is scouting for boys and girls with a pagan twist..... Oh!the whole thing gets me so excited that I could be here for hours telling you all about it. :):)Better yet....
There is a website that you should check out if you are interested.
www.spiralscouts.org
All the information is there and there are charters all over the USA. It has only just recently become international in Canada and other countries.
Let me know what ya think. :):)

Question-- when a Pagan school calls itself a "Church," what does that mean exactly? I'm looking for an "ABout us" page, but I can't seem to find it. I was just wondering if you think they expect us to adhere to a certain belief system?

SAHM, I understand your fears of not just wanting to send your
child to any pagan school. But, I think that if we pagans could
some how set up schools where there would be just basic pagan
beliefs taught along with excellent academic skills it would be a
wonderful idea that might attract more than just pagan students.

It sounds nice, even interesting, but i would not wish to go there. It offers classes on religion, which i dislike, even dispise. I woun't go into the reasons, but I don't get a nice feeling towards this school.

That school does sound great!! But me too i know i can't homeschool. Just not smart enough!
I wonder if the states gov't recongizes this school? So that you get credit for homeschooling?
Though i'll have to read more into the site!

Hmmmmmm, I think I'm confused. Is this meant to be as an addition to their normal schooling, or in place of it?

I would prefer learning about various religions in a way that we were never taught religion in public schools - openly and without bias.

My fiance's daughter is in a Magnet School for the Arts. It took alot of fighting with her mother to get her into the school. Her mother wanted her to remain at the Southern Baptist private school she had been going to, even though the mother is (questionably) pagan. The school she is in now doesn't teach religion. (I feel that should be taught at home and through your actions.) But it teaches scholastic curriculum?sp? through the various art forms. The Unitarian Universalist Church in our town does very well at teaching MANY religious backgrounds, Jewish, Christian, Pagan, etc... while not saying "THIS is what you SHOULD believe."
