Definitely work up to it. Go with a 12 for a while (probably about 6 weeks), and then try the 10. If you just try and shove it in, it will rip your ear, take a really long time to heal, and more than like ly get infected. I know from experience - I tried (unsuccessfully) to go from a twelve to an 8. Hurt like a b*tch!!!:)

Good luck!

I had my ears pierced, regular post-sized holes, when my friend gave me her tongue barbell. I can't remember what gauge it was.. Probably a 12 or 14. It took from 3pm to 10pm, working on it.. ice, the whole deal, but it went through. Hurt like crazy, and burned for a while afterward. But I never had a problem with infection or anything...

You can pick up some tapers and use those to up the gauge. Your local piercer should sell them. That would be the easiest way and you can slowly progress the size.

You may be able to pierce it to a 10g but I'm not sure. You might ask a piercer if you trust them. But you can alos pick up tapers online and even at Hot Topic (though it's crap jewelry that I wouldn't put in my body).

gaugeing is easy

just play with the ear piercings

Pull on them strait down 25 times a day
to the point were it starts to hurt
and in a week you will be up to 10 guage.

Tappers also work but cost $ and once you use them there is no point to own them.

I went from a 14 to a 4 in 2 years in my tounge.

Well the 8 guage I kind of CRUNCHED!! through my tounge just ask Dellit.
He almost passed out when he hear me forcing it through.
No really he almost did!!!

and no it did not hurt.

One gauge at a time, toots...one gauge at a time. And give the peircing some heal time in between upgrading. My hubby upgraded too large too fast and one day it just grew out.
