View Full Version : When to dismiss a dream as a dream and not a message?

After working with dreams, and having it in my families blood, I take notice of them and often I wonder if I pay too much attention to them. I have a very good record of prediction with dreams, especially other peoples, and this adds to the concern/confusion.
When is a dream a warning/vision/message, and when is it merely the winding down of the day? This is hard to define for me, and think about it before posting. If you believe that messages and such come that way, then its in the details, and after awhile you look harder and harder at dreams.
Reason? Had a dream that wont let me alone. It has not returned and thats good, but it was a disturbing one and is still on my thoughts. I need to study it, but at same time dont want to find out if I had the right hunch at first. My hope is it means something else.

When it comes to dreaming, I have been lucky. If I dream something more than 3 times, it will happen, simple. Its never failed yet.

Yes. I agree with Hope. I pick my dreams apart, and their importance by how they make me feel. If I am stuck thinking about a dream and what it means, if I have a dream that is considerably more vivid than my usual dreams, or If I am dreaming in first person, I take it as a definate sign, and not just a "winding down". ( First person for me is when I am in the dream and I can't look at myself, like an OBE, and not seeing myself doing everything.) Sorry I am no expert on dreams, but this is my personal tactic. Oh yes, and if I am really stumped, I ask my tarot cards.

This is something I often wonder about too, so it'll be an interesting thread to keep tabs on. The women in my family had visionary dreams. My grandma would dream about someone she hadn't seen or thought about in ump-teen years, and the next day their obit would be in the paper. We used to tease her and say "geez Grandma, don't dream about me!" Sorry, not trying to make light of your problem, Flar.

heh, is ok. Yes, I get this from my mom's grandmother. She was cherokee and could always tell you what your dreams meant...... things that would happen, or an insight you needed, sometimes a warning to prevent something.

remember too that not all is ours to control -- for me personally knowing something bad is going to happen and not being able to make it happen "my way" can be harsh

if it were something I could control, I wouldnt be worrying about it. Its more of the........ I dont know how to say it, because to me words and thought are power. If I say it, I add more reality to it, and I definitely dont want to do that. But the dream could be a warning, but it seemed for like....... information........ of something to come, and get ready to deal with it.

Are you able to separate what was actually happening in the dream from its symbolism? I'm not going to say that it wasn't a premonition since it might be - but it may also symbolize something that's going on in your life or within you that you may need to address :hugz:

Here is my first post here in this thread. I have being doing dream interpretation for many years, since I was a teenager. I am also in the COT Tribal Memory class - my personal belief is that dreams represent many things, from what went on today at work, to visits from far away loved ones, to taps on the shoulder from unnamed spirits all the way the the thoughts of the Collective Conscious . My curiosity drew me here tonight with a stronger pull than I usually get....I'd like to hear more about from folks. Do tell?

well, I wont be going into the dream for the reasons I mentioned, but one of the disturbing aspects that lend me hope or doubt is the medication I am taking. It can and often does disrupt my normal dream cycle and cause "skipping" in my dreams. I cant recall if I had been taking the medication or if it was on one of my binges trying to stop taking it.

It's interesting that you are no longer having the dream. This may indicate the problem has been resolved yet you don't know why. But, in any case you are still thinking about it. That happens to me a lot as well. :woah:
I would think about the dream to make sure you haven't missed any details and compare it with your waking life at the time the dream was going on. You don't want to describe your dream and that's fine because the only person who can really decipher a dream is the dreamer. Some dreams can be really very hairy. Especially if you are dreaming you are a serial killer or something just as horriffic. You can start wondering if there is an aspect of yourself you didn't know anything about. Actually, everyone has a dark side but most of us deal with it as society dictates and we have a conscience.
Don't be afraid to confront that aspect of yourself, it's a way of intergrating and acknowledge yourself :bothsides
