Ok...so I posted this in the health and beauty thread but got no responses. Since I have to make a decision soon....I thought I'd throw it in here and see if someone can help.
So I'm getting ready to sign up for this Reiki course. It's for Lvl 1, 2 and Master Level attunements. But before I do it, I want to know if you guys think it really really works. My husband says I should only go for level 1 and see if it works. But the place I'm signing up offers the whole package deal for a better price....plus, I really like the school.
But I've had Reiki masters ask for others to help them heal a sick pet....and I've wondered to myself, "if you're a Reiki master, why can't you do it?" Not to sound negative, but I just don't want to waste my money if others have had no success with it. I was actually thinking about maybe taking a chakra balancing course instead.
So..tell me...what are you experiences with Reiki??

I'm not an expert on it, but I did a paper on it for an english class a while back. There's lots of great info out there on the 'net about it..
Personally, I see it as high-level energy manipulation. From what I've read, the point of a reiki session is for the reiki therapist to connect to the energy source of the patient, and to clear out any negativity or blocked energy that could be there.
I met a woman at the local candle shop that was a reiki therapist. I had a shirt on that said 'I need a hug...' (which I really did.. I was in a bad way) and she took it as literally :p . Automatically, I felt very warm and calm, like I had just sunk into a bath. It was a great experience.
I think it'd be a great skill to have, and I am going to take a class on it when I can. So, I would say go for it! As for the chakra-balancing course, I think it would go hand-in-hand with the reiki, and might help you to more completely clear your system of negative energies. If I were you, I'd take both when I could, it'd just be a matter of which one to do first.

Thank you for sharing your experience with me :). I've done alot of research on Reiki, but have absolutely no experience with it. I've never met anyone who practiced it or anything. So anyone who has encountered it will be a help to me :hugz:

Hmm... I haven't actually had first hand experience with this, but I've heard it works. :p
I plan on covering this in my healing course next round too, so any input you could provide there would be awesome.
I've considered going to classes also, so I'd be interested to hear what you think if you decide to go.
G'luck!

I'm really looking forward to taking them. But the Chakra healing course sounded really interesting too. They also have Celtic Reiki...but when I asked her about it....she said since I'm a beginner, she suggested I start with Usui Reiki, then I can take others later :)

They have some amazing programs that they offer and have received high ratings for their instruction. I'm signing up tomorrow....so I guess I'll go from there :)

I am sooooooo jelous! I've been dying to take a reiki class for 2 years, but the pieces just haven't fallen in place yet, timing is always off. In my experience multiple Reiki practitioners do a healing together to a. Speed up the healing (sometimes the recipients energy is really low and a massive fueling is needed), or b. It's a major problem.
If your wondering which class to choose, try peaking in a book and experimenting on a willing subject. Tha'ts what I did. Then ask for their honest opinion and feelings after the session. I haven't gotten my attunements, but I can still help eliviate pain, and other small ailments. I don't know what to say about the whole Master degree after one session, traditionally you work up to it and master each degree before proceeding, but times, they are a changin'! When in doubt, ask for a session with the teacher and see what you get and how you feel!

Reiki is a lot like any other energy work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't seem to. Just because a person is a Reiki Master does not mean that they don't need or want help with 'healing'. The basic premise behind Reiki is that the practioner is just a channel of the force that flows through them. The force/healing/love/power/energy goes to where it's most needed.
I am a Reiki Master/Teacher in the Usui tradition. If you are looking for guarantees, I have to tell you that there aren't any. However, I am firmly convinced that Reiki works. I have had much success using Reiki on people for healing. And I've had not so much success too (one kitten I had was afflicted with feline luekemia, and no matter how much Reiki on her I did, she still didn't survive.
My suggestion would be to go, and enjoy yourself. Let go to the experience and see what happens. :flowers:
I hope this helped at least a little bit.

Faeawyn, I have recently had my Reiki II attunement, and for me, I have to tell you it is an amazing experience. It really works. At first I was skeptical with the distance healings, but then, as part of my "homework" I had to do 6 distance healings. I offered a bunch of healings here and the feedback from everyone was great. If you do a search in Just Talk for Reiki and my screen name, I am sure the thread will come up. (I don't want to bump it b/c I don't want people to think I am offerring more, Unfortunately, I don't have it in me to do any treatments at this time in my life.)
I don't know how much the group is costing you and I don't know the time frame either. But I would suggest to think about the time you might need to get "comfortable' ( not the right word but can't think of better one right now) withthe energy. I waite d6 months between my first two attuynemtns. I would love to go on for my Level II, but at this point in my life, I don't have the energy or time for that kind of committment to it. From what I have read and heard, there is a big jump from Level II and III.
*ugh* I am rambling... exhaustion does this to my brain. if this makes no sense to you let me know and I will try to clarify better.

Thank you everyone for all your wonderful information.
Branwynn - thank you for clearing up my question as to why a Reiki Master/teacher would need to ask for assistance.
Chryssi - thanks to you too. Your enthusiasm was the last push I needed to go for it :)
Frigga - they're not all lumped into one class. It's actually level 1, then 2 then master level...but they were lumped into one price :)
I'm signing up today. Thank you everyone for helping me make my decision :hugz:
