1995 -- South Korea's Supreme Court ruled in September that men and women who have the same last name can henceforth marry each other provided they marry first outside the country. The ban on same-name marriages had severely limited marital choice; for example, 43 percent of the population are named either Kim, Lee or Park.

that reminds me of an old law here in the US:
you are not allowed to bathe donkies in bath tubs.

In Carmel California, until Clint Eastwood became mayor, it was against the law to eat ice cream cones on the city streets, Clint had a post made that had him on his horse in Fistful of Dollars, with an ice cream cone added instead of a pistol, saying "Truth Justice and Ice Cream"

In Rhode Island, it is illegal to throw pickles at a Trolly car.

Oh..and by the way...one of my ancestors last name was Torrence. One of Her ancestors, was another Torrence, who married someone with the name Torrens. Imagine MY confusion while doing my family tree. They were apparently not biologically related, at least, if they were, it was FARRRRRRRRRRRRR removed. Torrens and Torrence are derived from the same name, however, the connection was very far removed.

Talking of the law.............

A state judicial board's fact-finding panel concluded in April that Los Angeles County Judge Patrick Murphy was not entitled to the 400 days sick leave he has taken since 1996 and that he was merely malingering while being paid $130,000 a year to be a judge.
Murphy said he was plagued with various maladies, including a phobia for the job of judging, and that's why he had left the country and enrolled as a full-time medical student in Dominica while still on the courthouse payroll. [The Recorder (Los Angeles), 4-12-01; Los Angeles Times, 1-26-01]

This reminds me of some of those really goofy warnings that you see on junk...

For instance, on a Swedish chainsaw:

"Warning: Do not attempt to stop chainsaw with leg, arm, or genitals."

Kinda' makes you wonder... I mean, they usually put those warnings on things when someone actually tried it!!

Heh, that's why I find that warning so silly. Perhaps these people are not in their right minds....

There's one for a town very close to me saying you can't walk backwards outside of the Barnstormers play house eating peanuts while a play is happening. WTF??

What the hell is that? First of all, who would do that? Second, if they did, why would it be against the law...I mean, who would that be hurting? It certainly wouldn't hurt anything but the pride of whoever was doing it...teehee...jk

I read somewhere that it's illegal in Texas (i think, could've been somewhere else) to own more than 5 vibrators!
Is there a shortage there?
And how would they enforce it? 8O 8O 8O

But wouldn't it be interesting to be the one to enforce that?
