View Full Version : Question for Guys and those with Male Significant Others (ie. Boyfriends, Husbands)
Myst
August 2nd, 2001, 06:18 PM
Ok, my fiance can NEVER be on time and can NEVER let me know when he's going to be late. We've had the same argument over and over and everytime he's promised to call next time and let me know what's going on but he NEVER does.
My mom says my dad is the same way, as does every girl I know who has a boyfriend or husband.
Is it possible for a man to give his SO a call when he's going to be late or am I just going to have to learn to live with it?
:D

LOL..honey..if he hasn't learned it by now...he never will. Case and point...
For the last week or so, i've been waking up to smell cigarrette smoke in my house. I've just quit, and am having a hard time. I've begged, pleaded, and yelled, at my hubby NOT to smoke in the house. Still he does it. Today..I asked (actually..TOLD) him again. He says.."Ok. Tomorrow, I'll put a fan in the window, and aim it outside, so it sucks all of the smoke out of the house. Ok?".
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I'm actually the one that's always late and apologizing. I guess lateness is not completely split along gender lines. ... unless, of course, there is something about myself I'm not aware of... ?? ;)

I know it was going to get to a male vs female type thread.
What I meant is that a lot of the men I know do it, so I was wondering if all do. I'm not saying all do or that men are evil or anything else, yeesh.
..Willow did not start the man bashing..

OK, I'll elaborate - men are great as friends, sons, fathers, etc, but partners? I've given up on that! hehe

heh, i've recently realized that, with newly developed scientific procedures, it truely is possible for the human race to continue without a single man participating. this thought frightens me. please don't kill me, i love you. :D
and as i noted before, i was being 100% sarcastic!

Pagan Standard Time = the favourite excuse of all my friends when they're late every single time we get together.
When I'm late it is invariably because I run around getting all ready to be on time, then stop and look over and my SO is still sitting in front of his computer staring and looking bugeyed and usually hasn't even showered yet. My excuse is Matthew Standard Time.
None of my friends believe me but I swear it's true.

Teehee! I heard on NPR that they've been researching that in Australia or something and that they've begun to find ways to reproduce without men! It's crazy! Teehee, but what are they gonna' do when the babies they make are male?? hehehe Some women in this world...I'm a female and I hardly understand them sometimes...hehe

Yes it is. My SO was totally imposssible about telling me when he was going ot be doing something ~ and we have lived in the same house for six years! Finally, I told him if he couldn't give me the same common courtesy he gave his friends, family and co-workers, he could move out and tell me goodbye. Things are much, much more peaceful around here now.:D

Learn to live with it8O . I've been married for 7 years now, and my hubby is the same way most of the time. Yes there have been a few times when he has called and said he is runing late or whatever, but those are few and far between.;)

I'm Male, and always get to places 5 to 10min a head of time. I have always been that way. But, I'm not the typical male either.

I have to agree with you Clef. I'm always on time if not early. My watch is even set ten minutes fast so that even if I'm just barely on time, I'm still early. **ROFL**
And I always try to call my wife or email her to tell her if I'm going to be late. It's not my fault though if sometimes I happen to be in the middle of a half-hour long meeting that ended up running two hours and I can't exactly just get up and say, "Forget you guys, I'm going home.", and leave when my boss and his boss are both participating in the meeting. That would kind of look bad, and job security is kind of an important thing...
But then I'm not a typical man anyway. Maybe it's more a learned behavioral pattern which I was never taught (since I hardly ever had a father) than a genetic disorder.

When we are going out anywhere Naillosotarrain is great we are never late. The only time there is an occassional problem is when he's out with buddies about 30% of the time he forgets to call the other 70% he calls.:D

I for one male, am NEVER late, and if I'm running behind at the office due to business I call home and let my wife know. I'm the only smoker in the house but I never smoke indoors at home I go out on the porch. I know many people who are "late " people and it drives me up the wall. However males as a rule are a bit less considerate of others IMHO.
Not that I'm perfect (but I'm working on it ;)) I am not a tidy person, I don't have a compulsion for putting things away before I get out other stuff. I'm impulsive, I am always having ask people to repeat questions if I'm doing something else, and I have the most terrible habit of trying to take center stage in any conversation.

We "discussed it" last nite. Apparently he's never had a girlfriend/SO who cared where he was and what he was doing when he was late - even the one he lived with for 3 years.. well she was a special case indeed
He just can't see why it matters to me - and I keep telling him I care about him and worry about him... he thought it was because I thought he was fooling around!? It's like, no, your significant other is SUPPOSED to care about you you know....
And Dellit, I know you were teasing, but the day my SO says that to me ("I hear you, I just don't care") or a certain few other comments ("No, I'm putting my foot down" or "I'm the man of the house") is the day his @$$ hits the curb :)

Wow. Not even the couch, just straight to the curb. I'm impressed. They sure breed women strong these days. That's a pretty good distance to kick a man. You must have strong thighs or something. I bet there are plenty of cultures that could have used strong women like that instead of the little dainty things in big poofy dresses. :)

well, I am always late, but I've never attributed it to my gender. I've always thought it had more to do with my being a total space cadet.
example: it is five minutes before i have to leave for work. I am dressed, my stuff is in order, I am ready to go be unhappy for the day. Then, I pick upthe paper, read the front page, the editorials, the funnies, do the chess problem, look up and realize that its noon. oops.
thankfully my SO is about as bad as I am, so there isn't much tension about it.

I completely agree -ew. The WORST people for being late, who I know are ALL FEMALE! Take for instance my mother-in-law and her daughter. We all plan to meet at a certain time at a certain place, we always get there early, they always show up late. Happens every time!
I keep saying that one of these days I'm going to tell THEM to be there by 11am, and tell US to be there by 1pm. And maybe we'll all arrive on time at noon? LOL
