Dolphins

Does anyone know any gods/goddesses associated with dolphins? I have always felt a strong call to the sea, especially to dolphins, so I was curious.

In one thread here someone mentioned Delphinus but I can't find much info about him online. I also saw somewhere Apollo listed as Apollo Delphinus, and so I'm a little confused here.

If anyone has any tidbits of info, I'd appreciate it! Thanks! :)

Hi Michie! There is this myth in which Neptune wants to marry a sea goddess named Salacia. Well, she ran away. Neptune finally sent a dolphin to find her. Finally, they married.

I've also heard/read that the goddess Nehelennia is also associated with dolphins, though I've not come across much evidence for that, other than her sea/ocean associations.

Dionysus or Bacchus can be associated with dolphins.

Nethuns and Neptune. In Roman art they are usually depicted on funerary murals as they carried the dead to the afterlife. I've also seen the symbol used on early Christian murals, along with the obligatory fish, so you could also say the Christian God has a connection.
Both Pliny's relate a story where the governor of Africa, a fellow named Flavianus, poured perfume on an otherwise friendly dolphin, and the dolphin did not go near humans for months.

I have always been fascinated with dolphins, too, and feel a strong spiritual connection to them! Do you live by the sea?

You might want to look up Yemaya - she's an Ocean Goddess, but I don't know much beyond that. I've been meaning to learn about her myself.

I also feel a very strong connection to them. I'm hoping to be able to swim with them this year over in Orlando :). I've heard its an amazing experience. There's just something about them...you can see it in their eyes...
