I'm getting a few herbs to grow in a flower box on my windowsill. I want ones that are good for medicinal purposes, maybe headaches, muscle pain, insomnia... any suggestions? They'd have to grow okay together, and it's summer here right now. :)

Here are a couple of sites I refer to for medicinal or magickal properties. I don't think they list what grows well with what though. HTH

www.wic.net/waltzark/herbenc.htm
Have you tried doing a search to see what comes up?

Thank you for the sites. :D I actually have a few herb books; I was kinda wanting to get something from personal experiences you guys might've had; what's been most helpful to you and so on. :D

I always have a lot of luck growing basil and oregano together, but the oregano is more for cooking than anything else. I've found that chamomile doesn't like a well-drained container. I've tried growing it a few times, and this time has been successful, and I tried a container with no drainage.
I know someone who simmers basil in a little bit of water and uses the resulting oily liquid as well as the leaves on aching muscles. The chamomile can be made into a nice tea.
I have some small lavendar plants growing on my windowsill right now. They need to be transplanted, and I'm a bit apprehensive about moving them lest they all die! I use lavendar in my bath and I make toner and lavender water as well.
Best of luck! I'm sure whatever you chose will be wonderful. And don't be upset if something doesn't work. It's all trial and error!;)

Lavender is excellent, only thing is, it can really take over, try to find a small breed that isn't too 'leggy' (long stems). Be sure to pick the lavender when the blossoms haven't quite opend yet too, that is when they are most powerful. (In my experience). Lavender grows very well near feverfew, but feverfew gets monsterous, mine was tiny, I tossed it in my garden and now its 3 feet around o_O; Lemon Thyme would probally like a box too, it has a lovley scent to it also. You could also make a mint box, (you would only be able to do mint as it totally takes over) Mint is good for so many medicinal and relaxation purposes. Lavender and marigolds get along well also. It likes purple violets too. (both flowers have good medicinal uses, Im especially partial to violets). Hope this gives you some ideas! :D
