So here it is...

Is it possible to be Christian or Catholic and still believe in Wicca?

If not... Why?

If so...How??

Personally I believe it is. But that is only my opinion, and we know what they say about opinions....they're like butts (being pc) :foh: everone has one.

I may be opening a can of worms here. But my sister and I have recently had this conversation and I was wondering if I am alone in the thought.

Thanks for listening.

I'm sure it's possible. Though I'm not sure how... and it might piss off a whole lotta people... but if that's what someone believes, hey...

I know your not alone but to me it makes no sence. Christian one god....wicca, many.

Thats just my perspective. Others have a totally differant perspective as wicca is differant for all that follow it. :)

My personal opinion is that Christianity and Wicca are like oil and water ... they don't mix. That being said, I want to point out that the reason that a lot of Catholics are drawn to Wicca is that they have similar ritual elements. Both Wicca and Catholicism are very structured, and Wicca can provide a comforting familiarity that makes the transition from Christianity to Paganism a little smoother.

Ok, first off, no ofense is meant by my statement. However in the Christian and Catholic religions, dispite what they say about one God; they still have many, many other gods involved. Or at least that is the way they treat them. Father, son, holy ghost. (trinity if I ever saw one.) "Eat this bread, it is my flesh, and drink this wine, it is my blood. Do this to remember me and what I have done for you." (taking the god into ones self)

They bow to idols. (Even though they say Thou, shalt not.) There are little Jesus', Mary's, angels, and crosses that they wear without fail. Most Catholics "pray" before Mary. And isn't that just another form of goddess worship? If they are so dead set on following one true God, why is they pray to Jesus, Mary, Michael, and St. Thomas, and so on?

There is a balance. It is my thought that Christians and Catholics most certainly can be wiccan as well. It's just too close to call. IMO. But I have my own veiw of God. I was raised Christian and I respect what they do, it's just not for me.

IMHO? Christians can practice witchcraft as folk magick, but Christians cannot follow Witchcraft or Wicca as a religion.

OK so here is my butt........(opinion)
You do as you want as long as it feels right for you.. If you feel that the Catholic god is the one you feel close to or connected to WELL GO FOR IT!!! :woot:
Who can say what is right and what is wrong in this area I think its what feels right for you.

Here is my butt, and unfortunatly in this case, it isn't very plesant. I wish it were prettier, but I can't change what the Bible says.

From the Wicca side: sure.

From the Christian side: Sure, if you toss out most of the Bible and make up a new “Christianity” that’s only bound by what you say!

The old testament goes on and on about how evil it is to worship any other gods. It’s one of the main points of the whole old testament. According to the Bible, it is OK to beat a slave so bad that he can’t even get up for a day (Ex 21:21), but a person who worships another god or even invites someone else to worship another god supposed to be killed immediately (Deut 13:6, below).

… You must purge the evil from among you.
6 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. 9 You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone him to death, ……. :foh: :foh: :foh:

This intolerance of other religions is reinforced over and over in the New Testament as well, in places such as in Romans, Revelation, 2Jn, and many other books in the New Testament.

Of course “possible” is pretty open ended. Each of us is free to do whatever we want to religiously, and to call it whatever we want. However, you may want to be careful calling yourself Christian, because many people will then think that you are guided by the Bible, which you clearly are not if you are worshipping any other god.

Agreed here! Both are religions that have certain aspects that can be incorporated and transposed, but I don't believe you can be of both religions.
I think Christianity has a lot of Pagan elements, mainly to help during the times of conversion. However the bottom line is this: Christianity= The one "true" God, Jehovah. Wicca=Polytheism, take your pick from the hundreds of Gods and Goddesses. And on top of that Christianity asks that you deny all other religions, so either way, you'd be dishonoring both, right?

I was baptised catholic and remained catholic and took confirmation because I felt my family and relatives would not be accepting to me deciding that I no longer wanted to remain with the faith.
When I was 10 I was lured to wicca. I cant explain it. By 11 I was devoted. Yes I was young but im almost 22 now and still wiccan. Its my religion for life!
So I say yes you can be both because techincally I am. However I no longer have faith in the Catholic church. :whatgives

I know of a few people who style themselves as xian witchs. But somehow in my opinion.....ah me...I cannot see it. As the religions in question are too diametericly oppossed to each other. But when it all comes down to it, what we beleive is such a personal thing. So why would it really matter if someone wants to combine both. The Divine is the Divine no matter how you look at it.

Well.. look at the fact that most catholic "saints" are really pagan Gods or Goddesses.. I think that catholocism and paganism are one click away from one another... yes, chritianity DOES have pagan dna... I was a bit confused in my path.. now, I am not wiccan.. I made up my own belief system.. in healing (as was stated about the folk magick), my grandmother used VERY pagan influences when doing so.. but, said that witchcraft is "the devil's work".. she cannot be convinced that she was doing ANYTHING REMOTELY pagan.. When healing, I use what my Grandmother taught me, calling upon Yeshua at times.. to ME, I see Yeshua as "A" God, but not the ONLY God.. so, i have christian influences but I consider myself pagan, not wiccan or christo-wiccan (and I don't see anything wrong with those who are).. It would take some working, but there are several ways to incorporate both into your life.. Many people in Lousiana have been doing it for generations.. Their catholic background will not allow them to "worship" other Gods, etc., but they use magick in lots of ways.. Just MHO..

Wicca=Polytheism, take your pick from the hundreds of Gods and Goddesses.

If that is true then what if as a Wiccan you choose Jehovah, Christ and the Holy spirit as your God/Gods to worship. :eyebrow:

And on top of that Christianity asks that you deny all other religions, so either way, you'd be dishonoring both, right?

I'm not sure if Christianty says deny all other religions but it does say deny all other Gods. But if you as a Wiccan have already chosen to worship Jehovah, Christ and the Holy Spirit as your Gods then you are being true to your Christian part of your faith as well. You are just worshiping in an unorthodox way.

I am personally working on developing my own path of Christo Paganism so this is very much in the for front of my mind right now. I am working on incorporating some pagan practices and beliefs into my Christian faith and value system. Believe me it is quite a challenge but it feels right. I have really been dealing with this for many years but have just recently really realized this is what I am doing and have really commited myself to it in the last few months.

Anyone who may be reading this and might need help incorporating the two belief systems please feel free to pm me and ask me questions. Also check out the Christo-Paganism class by Morr in the Teaching forum. It has a lot of good information. :bouncybob
