I did this because Mol had a cool idea with the sketch thread.

Okay, all the sketches here are line art and are graphite or ink, they all averaged about 5 to 10 minutes to draw. Hope you guys enjoy the stuff here! Let me know what you think! :p

First two are "the Archer" and the "Asiatic Dragon".

I love the dragon, he's very cute.
Yes, cute...in a (insert stereotypical claw motion and not-so masculine sounding Grrrr here) kind of way!

I cannot believe that you pump these out in 5-10 minutes....I'd still be working on the eyes!

You have got talent boy!

The first one is of Vicky, a model from my figure class. The ONE person I can say that I have over 1100 drawings of (5 years of figure will do that).
The second is a character concept called "Father Time", never went anywhere with it...
The 3rd is the original sketch I did for the peice on Frankenstien I did. :)
All of these are from around 1999 or so... I listed them on here because I plan on revamping my old website soon, and the sketches area is one I am taking out. :)

With your talent, you will go WAY far! I love your work. And your site. Hey! Would you do a sketch for me that I might be able to use as a business logo?

Your dragons are awesome. I'm sure you could take one of my sculpted dragons and pen it into a fabulous logo. Will you give it a shot? (btw, this is a business expense, so we would have to talk about compensation for you -- that I can afford!!!)

Something that I could use on business cards, letterheads, website buttons, etc...... Is it something you would be interested in?

Thanks!!!!!

DragonsChest, let me know what you think. :) I was going to e-mail them but something is screwy with my e-mail. When you approve my renderings, I will post the final sketches of all 3 to 4 dragons around the treasure chest. The chest in the sketch is empty, I am still finding references that will look nice in it.

DragonsChest
July 4th, 2004, 12:20 PM
Looking good! I like the chest and Squatling a lot, and the Dragon-fly is cute. I still prefer the sketch you did before though, of the flying dragon with the claw hand (that you were going to make into pooh hands). It rocks. But it would be cool to do what you are suggesting, put all these different denizens of the chest around the chest you are drawing.

The Squatling looks a bit aquatic. I have attached a few side and back pics for you. There are wings, but on this pic, they were done in the same color as the body, before I figured out that they look better when done in a contrasting color.

You are a talented person! I'm so glad you are getting to make a living at this, because it's somthing that you obviously love: drawing and creating. Huzzah!

Thanks, and keep em coming, you are awesome.

'Scuse the ignorance: what does maquette mean? And is it pronounced: mah-ket, with the emphasis on the second syllable?

You've mentioned it before and I meant to ask you then, but didn't get around to it. Thanks!

They are miniature sculptures that aid in character design. They have been used for years in the 2 dimensional animation world for years. :) They are carved out of a myriad of substrates, but more than often clay is used. :) And yeah you have the pronunciation right! :)

You have certainly captured in 2D the lightheartedness that I feel my dragons convey in person. I like what you have done with them. The only things I might change is it seems that the image is left-heavy and I would replace the dragonfly wings with another set of the curved dragon wings. Could the images be scooted over just a bit to the right? Not necessarily centered around the chest, just moved a bit. I really like how you have the Squatling looking up at the others.

Is this the image that will be used just for the booth sign, or is this the image that will be used for all the formats that you were talking about? Or is there going to be a different one for the logo, the letterhead, etc..... I'm just a little unclear on this.

Thanks, and again, you are very talented. I thank you for working with me and tweaking the images to my specifications.

Yeah I can do that! :) I just didn't know if you had a preference to which ones were displayed. :) This is the booth sign. The logo, the letterhead, and the business card are all separate, I am just looking for fonts that will work to unify with your scupture style. :) My main emphasis was to get this design to you asap. :) I should have the next revision late tonight or early tommorrow morning. I sent the initial CD-Rom ( Volume 1 )with all the stuff that was ready to go and am going to send Volume 2 to you asap, so I can get all of the web graphics and stuff done and cleaned up. The brochure is not done as of yet because of a few printing issues I am having with the file and trying to get it to print out of stuff other than Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator and still look good. Your wish is my command! I have a few more images on the site now: Artist Bio, Dragon Dollars order page, and Feedback. I received my first CD today.

A lot of the work that Druchii has done for me won't actually be on the site, as it's my letterhead, envelopes, business cards....etc. But you see what I'm working with in his MW Photo Album.

I have another CD coming with more original web graphics. I'm sure I'll be adding more images to the pages when that one comes in. The image on my Home Page is going to also be my Booth Sign, he sent it to me as a line drawing so I can enlarge it and work with it that way.

Given the whimsical nature of my dragons, and how totally un-lifelike they are, I believe the cartoony, cutesy look that Druchii created for me is perfect. :hearteyes

I still don't see that. It looks like to me that she is standing more on one foot than on both, and that would slump that shoulder down a bit, thus elongating the look of the upper arm.

I have a VERY sexy Bastet type goddess that is in the early concept stages that I am re sketching to be holding a cat. What are the exact wording and all that you want utilized on the logo? ( for placement of negative space so the text will fit better).

oops! I missed youre post :o he he. the title is Black Cats Soap and my saying is made in goddess form. There really is nothing else I have to put on it. Thank you ever soo much dear.

You do. They are much nicer than you give youre self credit for. I am hopeing to save up for a picture frame one. A groupe of us have been talking about buying booth space at some local fairs and I think one would be nice to display my soap prices in. :) I am counting my pennies lol I may have enough after X-mass. So much to do , so little time.

These are fabulous, Druchii!

Question--would you mind if I played around and digitally colored some of them? I just like to do it for practice. Wouldn't use them anywhere, but I'd gladly send 'em back to you so you could use them, if you want. :D

Let me know!

Thank you. :) If you draw everyday... put your mind, emotions, and fingers into it, you can do what I do. And honestly I don't think I am that great. Not when I have heros like John Howe, Tim Bradstreet, and Carravagio to look up to. :)

First is one for my Red Front story line...
Second is conceptual art for the graphic novel...

(note: these are not final designs of any kind... only preliminary ideas that I had) :D

Very nice! I like the graphic novel one a lot, but then, I'm partial to gypsy-like ladies! ;) Is that from that huge story-line thread that took most of us over for like a month or two?

Hehe, I still need to sketch Tala from that!
