Hi I thought I would share this idea with you, it is something I am still in the process of making (its an ongoing process!).

I am making my own book of interpretations which works for dreams and meditations as well as some images from tarot etc. I am building up a collection of different symbols that have appearedto me and my own personal associations. Like a lion to me is strength, nobility, could be agression, the sun and usually a masculine energy. I can then use my peraonal associations for interpreting when I see.

The way I figure it, your dreams are personal to you. Different images mean different things to different people. Why buy a book of interpretations that may not sit right with you? It has been an enlightening experience and one that you can keep adding to. For anyone who writes a dream journal or works with their dreams I highly recommend taking some time to do this :bubbles:

Dream interpretation books were originally devised from Jung's work on the Collective Unconscious. The idea beaing that the symbols come from a well of knowledge which we all share, stored in our subconscious. Therefore, the theory is that the symbols are universal and apply to everyone on some level.

I am not saying that interpretation books are a bad idea in principle, it is just so much more personal to use your own interpretations in my opinion. Certain symbols have personal significance which is nothing to do with the collective unconcious. Such as your father wearing a necklace with a buffalo on it or whatever. It was just an interesting project I thought I would share.
